hey lovely people,

As you are all fully aware of our current nationwide and global situation at the moment, it is only fair that we close the doors of Avril’s Hair Salon until further notice.

At Avril’s Hair Salon we believe and understand that hair for a lot of people is a type of therapy and relaxation mechanism, so during these uncertain times we will be posting hair tutorial videos on our page for you all to enjoy (and maybe some light hearted quarantine memes) Some videos ideas we have are: managing hair dye regrowth, hairstyle tutorials, hair care videos and even tutorials on how to cut your own hair...... cause let’s me real there’s gonna be a few of us coming out of quarantine with a new fringe or bob 💀

We understand that this is going to be a very hard time for some people but I really believe that if we comply with the instructions we have been given we will be able to contain and hopefully beat this virus !! The sooner we cooperate and treat this as seriously as it is, the faster we will be able to return back to normality.
We are all working together in this and we ALL have a part to play, don’t be the one to let your neighbours down.

Please, there is not need to panic or stock up on food. As Jacinda has said, Essential Services will remain open during the lockdown. There IS and WILL be enough food to go around. Please remember to take it easy and be kind to all the hardworking people who must remain working during the lockdown, we do not need to apply anymore stress or pressure on them.

More importantly, don’t forget to stay connected with people......although not physically 🙅🏽‍♀️

I had to do this girl’s hair last minute just before she performed with the award winning Virtuoso Strings Octet! They won the People’s Choice Award at the 2019 NZCT Chamber Music Contest. We’re so lucky to have them performing at our meet and greet today at 4pm at Porirua College, along with the Junior and Intermediate Orchestras of the nationally recognised Virtuoso Strings Charitable Trust! If you have nothing else to do, come down and we’ll see you there🔥

MEET AND GREET TOMORROW!!

We are very privileged to have the nationally recognised ‘Virtuoso Stings Orchestra’ performing at our Meet and Greet tomorrow! The Virtuoso Strings Orchestra was established in 2013 in our very own home town Porirua. Masterminds behind the highly successful youth orchestra are 2019’s first ever Music Teacher of the Year Award Winner Dr Liz Sneyd and her husband composer Craig Utting (both QSM recipients🙊).
Tomorrow you will get a taste of the up and coming superstars from the junior and intermediate orchestras as well as a few songs from our awesome seniors. PLUS special performance from the Virtuoso Strings Octet performing Craig Utting’s ‘Goodnight Kiwi’ in which made it to the NZCT Chamber Music Contest Finals and won the People’s Choice award!

An evening you won’t want to miss, we hope to see you all there!

For all those who would love to get a taste of what Virtuoso Strings is all about – we have a concert tomorrow, Saturday 24th August, at 4pm, at Porirua College.

The Junior/Intermediate orchestras will play a number of short pieces, followed by a few pieces with the Senior Orchestra, and we'll finish with a performance from the VSOctet of "Goodnight Kiwi", the piece they played with such success at the Chamber Music NZ Contest Finals in Auckland earlier this month.

Entry by koha; the concert should only be an hour, maybe an hour and half – families welcome!

Since Avril’s Hair Salon is well underway we thought we’d take this time to introduce our awesome staff!

Meet Avril! Avril is the founder and CEO here at Avril’s Hair salon. She has the highest degree in hair styling that you can possibly get, and also has a PhD in Media Studies, her honours in Creative Media Production and Masters in Event Management. She has worked with big names and groups such as the nationally recognised Virtuoso Strings Orchestra of which she is the Concertmaster, for her ‘bold and clear tone and romantic vibrato.’ She is also a member of the 2019 NZCT Chamber Music Contest Finalist and People’s Choice Award winners, The Virtuoso Strings Octet. Avril has performed amongst musical savants such as Jonathan Lemalu, Aaradhna, Black Grace Dance Company and Ria Hall. As well as having a passion for hair she also enjoys music/violin, dancing, eating, film/editing and hanging out with family and friends, especially her good friend Toloa.
Avril’s Hair styling skills have proven to become very handy and constantly put her in high demand within her customers and her peers.
Avril is a fun and bubbly chic chick who will have you feeling like a million dollars instantly.

Meet Toloa! Toloa is the admin, marketing director and drive behind Avril’s Hair Salon. Since joining the team back in late 2016 he has been a dedicated and hard working team player. Although his hair styling skills are limited he is an aspiring violinist who is the Assistant Concertmaster of the nationally recognised Virtuoso Strings Orchestra. Toloa also has a degree in Classical Performance Violin, Law and has a PhD in Film Composition. He recently won the NZCT Chamber Music Contest 2019, leading the quartet ‘Sixteen Strings’. He has played alongside musical legends such as Sole Mio, Araadhna, Ria Hall, Black Grace Dance Company, Orchestra Wellington and Avril Stil. May I also add that he is a current intern with Orchestra Wellington👀👏🏽 He has been reviewed by professional critics as ‘a sensitive interpretation’ when he played Vaughan-Williams ‘The Lark Ascending’ at the Jonathan Lemalu with Virtuoso Strings Orchestra ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ concert in 2018.
One thing Toloa brings to the job like no other is his ability to mesmerise and put our clients at ease or in awe when listening to his beautiful playing and his sumptuous tone.

Every now and then I will be sharing some of my top hair tips and tricks that my clients love!

Over the years I have worked closely with Dwayne Johnson otherwise known as ‘The Rock’ in movies such as Baywatch, Jumanji, Fast and Furious, San Andreas, Central Intelligence and more. A lot of the time people ask me how am I able maintain and keep his head so shiny and smooth..... and without further ado drum roll please 🥁🥁🥁

I use a CAR BUFFER!! You may be thinking ‘what? a car buffer?!’ but girls and boys it works to a T. I’ve never had such a product that is able to produce that much shine as well as a silky/gentle touch.

You can purchase them from any car dealer or workshop such as Repco, Auto Stop and even Mitre Ten Mega.
