Sometimes you have clients come in that you just know you were meant to cross paths with . So glad I could give Vanessa her dream hair today . Has so much fun chatting away about everything.
Now for the process
Full head of foils baby lights through the back and then scalp foils through the tops and sides . I used Ref Stockholm New Zealand blonde I.d high lift bleach and did a low light of REF Stockholm 9.23 every 3 or 4 foils . Vanessa wanted to keep away from the grey tones so we went for a toner of 10.003, 9.23 and 9.22 .
Why is it so hard to remember to record content? The amount of times I forget to get an after picture is actually insane!
I think this is one of the things I love most about hairdressing 🤍
It gives me a creative outlet every single day. I get to work with my hands, use my knowledge, trust my eye and create something that is completely individual to the person sitting in my chair.
And the best part? There is **always** something new to learn.
New techniques, new products, new ways of looking at colour, cutting and hair. I don’t think I’ll ever reach a point where I feel like I’ve learnt it all — and I actually love that.
It’s why I’m always investing in education, experimenting and pushing myself to keep growing as a hairdresser and as a creative.
I get to be an artist for a living, and my clients trust me enough to be my canvas.
How cool is that? 🥹

First try using the Ref Stockholm New Zealand to tone my gorgeous client Maddie. I can say I’m definitely impressed! Love the consistency and find a little goes a long way . I love that it is a hybrid colour too, it’s so versatile . I used the 10.21 with a dash of 9.3 to keep it bright. 🤍LOVE

Always a pleasure doing one of my OG clients

Temu salon finds… and honestly, I’m impressed 👀
I’ll admit I was a bit sceptical, but some of these have been such good additions to the salon without the hefty price tag:
• Glasses sleeve protectors – way cheaper than other suppliers and doing exactly what they should (no more colour stains 🙌)
• Hot tools holder – stuck it on the wall and it’s been perfect for keeping things tidy
• Tint brushes + whisks – great quality, easy to use, and I’m obsessed with the colours
• Light fitting – LOVE the style, gives such a nice vibe and was a fraction of the price
• Sliding door handles – solid, metal, and about half the price of what I’d pay elsewhere
• Metal spice rack – using this to display my demi colours and it’s actually perfect. I label the tops so everything’s easy to grab… already thinking I need another one 👀
Not everything is a win, but these ones definitely are 🤍

I hear this a lot behind the chair — and I get it.
But according to Inland Revenue Department, your hair appointments are considered personal expenses, not business ones.
That means even if you:
own a business
work with clients
or invest in your appearance for work
…it’s still not claimable.
👉 The only exceptions are usually very specific cases like:
actors or performers needing a certain look for a role
hair done as part of a paid photoshoot or production
For most people though — it’s a no.
Always best to check with your accountant for your specific situation 🤍
