Its all about the concentration and that determines the difference.

Most people have been told to use Retinol every day. Which is why their skin can become compromised. The skin response can be irritating – inflamed – dry – peeling – itching and sensitive. This is not a happy skin. And its call product overload.

Retinoid derivatives are a lesser form of Retinol and they can be used more comfortably and often. For example. Retinyl Palmitate is suited for the more sensitive skin type.

Retinol on the other hand is the purest form of Vitamin A and it does not require to be used as often. From personal experience. Less is Best.

Vitamin A is a well-respected skincare ingredient which is supported and recommended by Dermatologists and Cosmetic Doctors. It has multi-functional uses from scarring – sun damage – pigmentation -acne and rejuvenation (Look Younger for Longer).

Vitamin A is described as an active ingredient and can work well together with other specialised ingredients to increase the performance of each ingredient.

𝑁𝑜𝑡𝑒; Retinol is not suited for all skin types and it is not recommended to be used if you are also using AHA’s.

Personally, I cannot wear wool directly onto my skin. I literally itch like crazy. The skin becomes irritated and so do I. Itching or scratching creates a histamine affect and then these triggers off a tsunami of chemicals reaction in your skin. Welts – rashes and inflammation.

So, let’s address the wool issue.

Itching is generally because the fibres are coarse and they do not bend when they touch the skin. Instead, the fibres poke the nerve endings and cause scratching and itching. This feeling can be aggravated further because of the chemical components in the processing of the fibres. Plus, if your skin is dry or naturally sensitive then that’s another dimension of irritation.

**Note:** The fibre may feel soft to the hand when you touch. I don’t know how many times I have purchased clothing which felt soft, but it still made me itch. Read the label as there could be a combination of materials in the clothing contributing to the itching.

There are some natural fibres that are super soft and my favourite being cashmere and alpaca. Yes, I know they are more expensive but honestly. If you suffer from a sensitive skin like me? The relief to wear a warm fibre that does not itch is priceless.

Skincare can cause itching as well. And usually, it is all about the purity of the ingredients - chemicals in the skincare and weather you have a natural allergic reaction to something. But which one?

As a skin Esthetican my training is about identifying what that ingredient may be and how we can help reduce your irritation and what you can use. Sensitivity is a serious problem. But it does not mean you need to miss out in result driven skincare. My job is to help you to understand your skin and what you can use without irritation.
