Another busy week for the LightenUp team, with skylight installations and replacements right across Wellington & the Kāpiti Coast 🔨☀️

Here’s what we’ve been working on this week:

📍 Waikanae, Kāpiti Coast
Old acrylic dome replaced with a new double-glazed VELUX FCM 3030 skylight.

📍 Ōtaki, Kāpiti Coast
Installation of VELUX GGU CK04 centre-pivot opening, double-glazed roof windows.

📍 Lower Hutt
Replacement VELUX GGU MK08 centre-pivot opening, double-glazed roof window.

📍 Karori, Wellington
Old failed acrylic dome removed and upgraded to a VELUX FCM 3055 double-glazed skylight.

📍 Karori, Wellington
Storm-damaged acrylic dome replaced with a VELUX FCM 2222 double-glazed skylight, including a new light well to replace the existing foil tube.

📍 Hataitai, Wellington
Failed custom-made skylight and flashings removed and upgraded to a VELUX FCM 4646, complete with new Colorsteel flashings.

📍 Lyall Bay, Wellington
New VELUX FS M04 double-glazed skylight installed for EBuild Ltd as part of one of their current renovation projects.

📍 Berhampore, Wellington
New VELUX FS S01 installed to bring natural light into a dark lounge — typical of many Berhampore/Newtown cottages, where homes are closely stacked together with high-pitched roofs.

We also upgraded existing DIY clear roofing sheets in the bedroom to a VELUX FS M04 double-glazed skylight with a solar-powered blind, including a new framed and lined light well.

From replacing old and leaking acrylic domes through to new installations and custom skylight upgrades — another good mix of work for the team this week.

The direction your roof faces can affect the type and amount of light coming through a skylight — and how that light changes throughout the day and across the seasons.

There’s more to choosing where and how to install a skylight than simply picking a spot on the ceiling.

That’s why we look at the whole picture — your roof, the room below, orientation and what you actually want the skylight to achieve.

For this exterior entranceway, the goal was to provide protection over the front door while still keeping the outlook and natural light — including the view out towards Kāpiti Island.

We installed a large VELUX FCM 4672 skylight (1302mm x 1959mm) to create a covered entrance without closing the space in.

Built, roofed, flashed and installed by the LightenUp Wellington team.

Hey hey hey… now THAT’S a makeover!

VELUX FS M08 Fixed skylights 🌞

POV: You bought the house for the location… not the 1970s hallway. 😂

You know the one.

Long. Dark. No windows. Somehow requires the light on at 11am on a perfectly sunny day.

Hallways, stairwells, internal bathrooms and other windowless spaces are some of our favourite skylight transformations because the difference can be HUGE.

And no, you don’t necessarily need to start knocking down walls or redesigning half the house.

Sometimes you just need to look up. ☀️👆
