Fermented an Cutured Foods Workshops. Learn how to make probiotic superfoods to improve your health

'All disease begins in the gut'
Hippocrates, Father of Western medicine

Or to use a more empowering statement:
'All health begins in the gut'

Our gut is populated by trillions of beneficial bacteria (probiotics). They are the first line of defence to what we are ingesting from the outside world. They break down the food we eat so that minerals, vitamins and other nutrients can be abs

Hi everyone, I am aware that with the developing covid 19 situation a lot of people are feeling the need to keep themselves healthy and strengthen their immune system.

The most important step you can take is to minimise stress in your life, and to create more time for relaxation and fun. When your body is in stress (fight, flight or freeze) mode it shuts down the systems that help the body repair, heal and digest, so that it can focus all its energy on outrunning or fighting a perceived threat.

There are simple steps you can take to give your body a break from stress:

Close your eyes from time to time and take 10 long and slow breaths, and visualise tension leaving your body on the outbreath. This is especially important before you consume food because the body can't stress and digest at the same time.
Observe your thoughts, practise positive self talk.
Exercise regularly in nature, even if it is just a 15 minute walk at lunchtime.
Go to bed before 10pm to maintain a good circadian rythm. This is when your body heals and repairs optimally.
Eat good food, laugh lots, spend time with friends and loved ones, and love yourself and others.

Fermented foods play an important role in keeping us healthy.
The abundance of probiotic bacteria in fermented foods populate the gut where they perform a myriad of essential tasks.
Fermented foods help calm the nervous system, strengthen the immune system and fight of viruses.
They help replenish the vitamins and minerals that get depleted in times of stress, especially B vitamins. They also support the body in producing serotin, the "feel good hormone. 70% of serotonin gets produced in the gut with the help of probiotic bacteria..
Probiotic bacteria kill pathogenic bacteria and viruses that we ingest. They metabolise toxins and break down our food to extract micro nutrients that can then be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Probiotic bacteria get their energy from the fibre in our food, so eat your vegetables, fruit and wholegrains to keep them happy and thriving. Sugar and white flour is the favourite food of pathogenic bacteria.
That doesn't mean you can't eat cake from time to time, just not all the time.

Hi
My name is Ana and I am the creator of the Healing Foods page. I set up this page because I wanted to spread the word about the importance of digestive health and the healing powers of probiotic foods, like fermented vegetables, kefir and kombucha.
Our modern, stressful lifestyle and our increasing exposure to toxins, unnatural foods and antibiotics and other medication is killing the beneficial bacteria in our digestive tract, affecting our digestive health and causing health challenges like irritable bowel syndrome, leaky gut, allergies, diabetes, depression, arthritis..., to name a few.
Cultured foods like kefir, kombucha and fermented vegetables are teeming with beneficial bacteria. They are probiotic superfoods and, if consumed regularly and in combination with a wholefood diet and a more stress free and natural lifestyle, they will replenish the microbiome in your digestive tract and keep you healthy.
Milk Kefir is a fermented yogurt-like drink made with milk kefir 'grains" and milk. It can be made using dairy, coconut milk or nut milks.
For coconutwater kefir you use water kefir grains.
Kefir made with kefir grains contains 36 to 56 different strains of beneficial bacteria (probiotics), which help re-establish healthy gut flora. The benefits are better digestion, better absorption of nutrients, protection of the gut lining and overall better health.
Fermented vegetables are made using a natural lacto-fermentation process, which preserves the vegetables and turns them into a probiotic superfood. Fermented vegetables are a delicious condiment to your meals. They are teeming with probiotic goodness which will help you digest your food and absorb the nutrients. They are easy and cheap to make at home and it is fun to experiment with different flavours and different vegetables.
Kombucha is a fermented tea made with a Kombucha culture starter (scoby).
Kombucha has numerous health benefits. It contains enzymes, glucosamine, probiotics, and is rich in B vitamins including B12, and antioxidants. It helps with digestion, absorption of nutrients and is a great liver cleanser
This Sunday, 23 June, I will be running two workshops on how to make your own kombucha and fermented vegetables cheaply and easily at home. To register please msg me on fb or email me at [email protected]
Please share this info with anyone you think might be interested.

Hi everyone,
I am offering two new workshop topics for half-day workshops. There seem to be two big issues that quite often make it difficult for people to make healthy choices in their lives: too much stress in their lives, and a lack of knowledge about what constitutes healthy eating and living.

The first workshop is about identifying stress in our lives, how it impacts our well-being, and exploring ways of managing and minimising stress.
The second workshop will be an introduction on how to make quick and easy healthy meals, with demonstrations, recipes, and a shopping list for your pantry.
