Broader reviews and a systematic meta-analysis also support these findings, showing Botox injections as an effective adjunctive, and sometimes standalone, treatment for major depressive disorder .

These results align with the Facial Feedback Hypothesis—the idea that our facial expressions can influence how we feel. By relaxing frown muscles, Botox may help interrupt negative emotional feedback loops .
