The beginning of what we now know as the Mandarin Oriental can be traced back to two points, one of them being the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, dating back to the late 19th century, an establishment which has since become a byword for understated opulence.

Bamboo – present in both Bangkok and Hong Kong, this distinctive, highly architectural plant is conjured in the composition through clean, fresh greenness.

Lemongrass – used within infusions in Hong Kong, this bracing, citrusy material is a symbol of welcome and hospitality.

Lotus Flower – this eternal symbol of purity and spirituality – with a watery, airy odour – is often displayed floating inside glass bowls at The Oriental in Bangkok.

Elsewhere reached its next horizon in Saudi Arabia at the Amouage Boutique in Jeddah’s Red Sea Mall.

The House hosted an evening centred around Elsewhere, Amouage’s latest Essence de Parfum. A night dedicated to a scent inspired by voyage and the pull of home.

In Jeddah, the world of Elsewhere found a particularly fitting setting, as the boutique, the House’s first standalone space in Saudi Arabia, draws from the spirit of the Red Sea and the city’s heritage.

That same sense of time and transformation carries into Elsewhere. As part of the Essences collection, Elsewhere carries the depth of Amouage’s double-infusion process. Its perfume concentrate is infused for six months with Sandalwood chips, while the bio ethanol is aged for six months in bespoke oakwood barrels. These two infusions lend the scent a unique patina, adding a layer of sophistication to its woody, spicy, and ambery character.

At the Amouage Boutique in Nakheel Mall, Riyadh, Key Opinion Leaders and Friends of the House from Saudi Arabia joined Amouage to celebrate the arrival of Elsewhere, the House’s newest Essence de Parfum.

Its story follows Sindbad on a quest to rescue Princess Hayat, where he discovers the Fragrance of Life, a mysterious substance with the power to cast away evil and bring hope back to his home.

In scent, that voyage begins with the warmth and familiarity of Honey, Apricot, Mango, Cardamom, Ginger and Tangerine. It then moves into unexplored territories, where Black Tea, Davana and a Cappuccino accord bring darker, more enigmatic depths.

Finally, Elsewhere returns through Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Cedarwood, Labdanum, Cypriol, Vetiver and Patchouli, echoing the pull of home.

In Riyadh, guests explored this world through an evening dedicated to Elsewhere, its story, and the magical voyage at its heart.

Cultivated for centuries by farming families whose knowledge of the land has been passed down from generation to generation, the roses are harvested by hand at sunrise, when their aromatic profile is at its richest.

Through Amouage’s partnership with IFF and LMR Naturals by IFF, this ancestral tradition enters a new chapter in High Perfumery, with new distillation facilities planned on the mountain peaks in time for the Spring 2027 rose harvest.
