NCDs such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases are now the leading cause of death in PNG. The good news is that many of these illnesses are preventable.

Choose healthy foods, stay active, avoid to***co, excessive alcohol and betel nut, and get regular health checks. Small lifestyle changes today can make a big difference tomorrow.

🇵🇬 July 7 — Feast Day of Saint Peter To Rot ✝️

Today, we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Peter To Rot, the first indigenous saint of Papua New Guinea and Oceania.

Born in Rakunai, East New Britain in 1912, Saint Peter To Rot was a devoted husband to Paula Ia Varpit, a loving father, and a faithful catechist. During World War II, when priests were imprisoned, he courageously continued leading the Catholic faithful in secret.

He gave his life in 1945, choosing faithfulness to Christ and the Sacrament of Marriage over fear. His martyrdom remains a powerful witness to courage, love, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel.

Saint Peter To Rot reminds us that ordinary people can live extraordinary lives of holiness. May his example inspire us to stand firm in our faith, protect our families, and serve others with humility and courage.

Saint Peter To Rot, pray for Papua New Guinea, our families, and all the people of Oceania. Amen. 🙏??🇬
