The National Government will provide immediate assistance to those affected by the earthquake in Madang Province and its neighbouring provinces.

Prime Minister James Marape expressed his heartfelt sympathy and unwavering support for the people of Madang and neighbouring provinces severely impacted by the devastating 6.7 magnitude earthquake that struck on Saturday evening, October 7, 2023, with its epicentre located at Basamuk in the Rai Coast District.

It's very scary and this 8 earthquake just 12 minutes ago.

7 earthquake happened in Madang tonight from 6:00pm to 12:00am. Very scary. Lots of damage we'll see tomorrow morning. Household items fell from shelves to the floor. Some are damaged. While in Madang, experiencing total darkness, no power and no water after the heavy earthquake. 6 hours now still no power and water.
