Patchy Alopecia Areata: Blending the Unblendable 🧑‍🦲🤯

I consider Jerry’s case a tough blending challenge in SMP. Even when shaved down, the remaining hair follicles in alopecia areata create a sub-epidermal shadow, producing an olive green undertone that contrasts sharply with completely bald patches.

Blending cases like this is never simple.

My goal was not to overpower the scalp, but to reduce the contrast.
That meant carefully matching tones, respecting the scalp’s natural undertone, and avoiding oversaturation or a “painted” appearance. Every impression had to remain subtle, controlled, and realistic.

To achieve this result, I used multiple ink shades and varying needle sizes, applied with patience and precision—allowing everything to blend naturally over the course of the sessions.

Jerry is living with patchy alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition that causes small to large patches of hair loss.
