There are many factors that play into making a lash set. These 3 factors alone can change the appearance of a set so much so it is super important that you are transparent with clients from the start that because everyone is different, what you do one one person can look completely different on another person.

Diameter of the lash can change the appearance of how a set turns out. If your client shows you a picture of Russian volume using .07’s and you specialize in .03 lashes you can try your best to mimic the look, but it will still look different because of the lashes being used. You will have a more fluffy look as opposed to a more evenly spaced light volume appearance.

Eye shape is the #1 reason why our lash sets turn out differently on each client. You could be doing the same exact thing on each client and it will end up looking different 99% of the time because we are all unique. Some people have more lid space than others so long length may not look as long on them like they would on other people. Some people have hooded eyes, some have deep set eyes etc. This is why it’s important for us as the lash artist to be able to identify these features and give our clients what would suite their eyes best and be able to make those adjustments to a set to match what they are envisioning.

And lastly, the amount of lashes a client has can affect your results. For example, say you have a client with layers upon layers of lashes and they want a really light natural set of a picture of old work of yours. That client you remember didn’t have nearly as much natural as your current client. It will be harder for you to achieve that same look because if you are aiming for full coverage, your current client will end up looking fuller than they had anticipated. In this scenario, I would let my client know that they have a lot of natural lashes so in order to complete the set and provide the best retention, it will appear fuller than the inspo pic. If then, they want you to do less lashes on them to even it out you can definitely do that too and you would just explain that they would need to come in more frequently for fills.
