Skin Care Business 101: How to Start Properly

Just like any business, starting your own beauty line is not as easy as 123. Kailangan mo ng sapat na knowledge, guts at inspiration para makapagsimula. Here are some tips na makakatulong sa’yo ngayong you have decided to make it big in the skincare and beauty industry.

1. IDENTIFY YOUR MARKET
May mga brand owners na gustong magkaroon ng “high-end” products para ibenta sa mga nasa upper socio-economic class, thinking that having rich people as clientele would guarantee success. This is a valid idea but could also be a costly mistake. Yes, people of higher income status have money but sa aming experience, ang longevity o pagtatagal ng isang negosyo ay nakasalalay sa flexibility at affordability ng iyong mga produkto. Numbers will prove na ang masa pa din ang may pinakamalaking buying power. Our suggestion is that when you are starting, consider products that both the upper and lower income customers can afford and will love.

2. MATCH THE PRICE OF YOUR PRODUCT TO ITS PACKAGING
Customers are very visual nowadays. Ang product presentation at packaging mo ang magbibigay idea sa customers kung dapat bang mahal o mura ang iyong produkto. Products with good packaging and designs na ibinebenta sa abot-kayang halaga tend to attract more customers. 3. FIX YOUR LEGALITIES

- DTI Business Name Registration (https://bnrs.dti.gov.ph/registration)
- Mayor’s Permit from your City/Municipal Hall (Call or contact your local Information Office for details)
- BIR Registration (https://ereg.bir.gov.ph)

Kapag meron ka na ng tatlong ito, you can now apply for FDA License to Operate! Ang FDA License to Operate (FDA LTO) ay isang requirement to all brand owners. More than that, isa itong very powerful way to assure the public that you are operating legitimately and legally. Kapag may FDA LTO ka na, you are good to go!

4. FIND A MANUFACTURER WITH COMPLETE PAPERS AND GOOD REPUTATION
This can be the part kung saan maraming nagkakamali. Mahalagang malaman ng isang new brand owner ang kaibahan ng isang legit cosmetic manufacturer sa mga suppliers who will not be able to provide them with proper documents and support.

LEGIT MANUF:
√ Has an updated FDA LTO as Cosmetic Manufacturer
√ Willing to conduct site visit/ area inspection
√ Has complete business documents
√ Usually requires higher order quantities (MOQ) because of the formulation, machinery and manpower factors
√ Can be paid thru bank account bearing company name
√ Can be verified thru FDA’s website
√ Offers samples first before letting you decide on what to enhance/change in the product
√ MOST IMPORTANTLY: Can assist you with your Certificate of Product Notification (CPN). Ito ay ang pagpapa-register ng product mo sa FDA kung saan legit manuf lang with FDA LTO ang makakatulong.

UNDOCUMENTED SUPPLIERS:
√ Cannot show an FDA LTO
√ Does not permit site visit
√ With no or incomplete business documents shown
√ Offers very low order quantity (sometimes as low as 10 pcs or no minimum order) with very low prices (questionable quality)
√ Asks for payment thru unsecure means such as padala systems
√ Insists on the product they already have (pre-made, no option to enhance formulation)
√ Cannot assist or help you secure CPN

Make sure na sa mga legit manuf ka lang magtitiwala when it comes to your brand. Remember, it’s your name and brand, therefore your reputation and success we are talking about.
