FOR: TAIL-END OF A FRONTAL SYSTEM (SHEAR LINE), NORTHEAST MONSOON, AND LOW PRESSURE AREA
ISSUED AT: 11:00 AM, 30 NOVEMBER 2020
Due to its interaction with the approaching Low Pressure Area (LPA) over the Philippine sea, the tail-end of a frontal system (shear line) has moved eastward and its effect over portions of Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas has weakened. However, this weather system may begin to westward later today and tomorrow as the Low Pressure Area moves closer towards the Southern Luzon-Visayas area. Meanwhile, the surge of the Northeast Monsoon is prevailing
over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.
At 10:00 am today, the Low Pressure Area was estimated based on all 835 km East Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 850 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (10.9°N, 133.5°E). This weather disturbance remains less likely to become a Tropical Depression in the next 24 hours.
Hazards affecting land areas
Today through tomorrow noon: The tail-end of the frontal system will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rainshowers during thunderstorms over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas. Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon will bring intermittent to occasional
light to moderate rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.
Tomorrow afternoon through late evening: The tail-end of the frontal system and the Low Pressure Area will bring moderate with at times heavy rains over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the Southern portion of
Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and the rest of Visayas. Meanwhile, the surge of the Northeast Monsoon will bring occasional to frequent light to moderate rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora and the rest of Quezon.
Flooding (including flashfloods) and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy rainfall or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas that are identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards and in localities that received significant antecedent rainfall over the past couple of days or weeks. Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff
or swelling of river channels.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take appropriate measures and watch for the next update on this weather disturbance to be incorporated in the 24-hour public weather forecast at 4:00 pm today and 4:00 am
tomorrow. PAGASA Regional Services Divisions may issue local thunderstorm/rainfall advisories and heavy rainfall warnings while the hydrometeorology division and river basin flood forecasting and warning centers may issue general flood advisories and river basin flood advisories/bulletins as appropriate.
