Our 3rd Quarter General Membership Meeting was a meaningful gathering of learning, collaboration, and fellowship as members of the PSO-HNS Southern Tagalog Chapter (STENTS) came together to strengthen our commitment to excellence in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.

Thyroid Cancer Awareness: WHAT, WHY & HOW

WHAT is thyroid cancer?
Ang thyroid cancer ay cancer na nagsisimula sa mga cells ng thyroid gland, isang maliit na glandula sa harap ng leeg na gumagawa ng hormones na tumutulong sa metabolism at iba pang mahahalagang functions ng katawan.

Kadalasan, walang sintomas sa early stages, kaya mahalaga ang pagiging aware sa anumang bagong bukol o pagbabago sa leeg.

WHY does it matter?
Early detection can help with earlier diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Magandang bantayan ang mga sumusunod:

🔎 Mga maaaring senyales:
– Bagong bukol o pamamaga sa leeg
– Bukol na patuloy na lumalaki
– Pagbabago sa boses, gaya ng pamamalat
– Hirap o pananakit sa paglunok
– Hirap sa paghinga
– Namamagang kulani sa leeg

Hindi lahat ng bukol sa thyroid ay cancer. Maraming thyroid nodules ang benign, kaya hindi sapat ang sintomas lamang para malaman kung cancerous ito.

HOW can we protect our thyroid health?
✅ Magpakonsulta kung may bagong bukol o pamamaga sa leeg
✅ Magpatingin kung may persistent na pagbabago sa boses o hirap lumunok
✅ Thyroid ultrasound kung clinically indicated
✅ Kung kinakailangan, maaaring gawin ang fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) para masuri ang thyroid nodule
✅ Huwag balewalain ang bukol kahit walang ibang sintomas
✅ Regular follow-up para sa mga may thyroid nodules o may risk factors

Remember: Hindi lahat ng thyroid nodule ay cancer—but every suspicious thyroid nodule deserves proper evaluation.

The PSO-HNS Southern Tagalog Chapter lauched its advocacy project called Kabog Ka Vog last September 1, 2026 at Maharlika East Tagaytay City. A Nasal Irrigation Campaign that aims to empowers communities with practical knowledge on preventing and managing the effects of vog exposure through health education, proper nasal care, and community outreach. The project ties up with the chapter's continuing ENT children's Book Advocacy where we teach school age children on ENT health.

We partnered with Tagaytay Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine, Tagaytay City Health Office and Baranggay Health Centers.

As a chapter, we can build healthier, more resilient communities that spans across ages.

Kung ang allergy ay nakaaapekto na sa inyong tulog, trabaho, o pang-araw-araw na gawain, magpatingin sa isang ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist para sa tamang pagsusuri at gamutan.

Teamwork that work! Last June 27-28, The PSO-HNS Southern Tagalog Chapter held their 2nd Quarter General Membership Meeting and Team Building at Kasile Hills Events Place in Cabuyao Laguna. It was a day filled with a series of lectures and activities that foster camaraderie and team effort. Because as one Chapter we are One!
