Got you — Jung Kook's two block is different from a regular fade. It's DISCONNECTED, meaning the sides are short and the top is long, and you DON'T blend them together. That's what gives that fluffy, K-pop volume on top.

This is the version he wears most — low tapered sides, not skin fade, top curtain / comma hair.

STEP BY STEP

STEP 1: Prep and Section
Wash, towel dry. Hair should be damp, not dripping. Create the two blocks:
Create a horseshoe parting from the temple, around the back of the head, to the other temple. Everything below that line = Block 1 (the sides/back). Everything above = Block 2 (the long top).
Clip the top up completely so it doesn't get in the way.

STEP 2: Cut Block 1 - The Sides and Back
This is NOT a high fade like last time.
Start with guard #2 or #3 ( Jung Kook doesn't do skin). Cut the entire side and back up to the horseshoe line.
Go to the bottom edge and taper it down with #1 to #0.5 for a clean but natural finish. No hard skin line.
Around the ears, use scissors over comb to clean up, don't push the line too high.
Key: Stop exactly at the horseshoe line. Don't try to blend into the top. Leave a sharp drop.

STEP 3: Drop the Top and Establish Length
Let the top down. Comb everything down flat.
This is the Jung Kook length: Front should reach around the eyebrows to upper lip when pulled down, sides of the top should just cover the top of the disconnection line.
Cut the perimeter of the top to that length first — that's your guide.

STEP 4: Layer the Top for Volume
This is why his hair looks fluffy, not flat.
Take vertical sections from front to back on top. Lift hair 90 degrees straight up.
Point-cut into the ends — cut straight into the hair with the tip of your scissors to create texture, don't cut blunt.
Leave the front 1-2 inches longer than the back of the top so it can be parted or swept.

STEP 5: Create the Disconnection
Comb the top down over the short sides. You should see the short hair sticking out under the long hair.
Check: There should be NO blending. The long top should literally sit on top of the short sides like a bowl — that's the "two block" effect. If you see a blend, you went too high with clippers.

STEP 6: Texturize and Thin
Use thinning scissors on the inside of the top, not the outside. Take small sections underneath and thin 30-40% to remove bulk so it doesn't look mushroomy.
This lets the top fall nicely to the sides like Jung Kook's.

STEP 7: Style like Jung Kook
Blow dry: Dry the top forward first, then push the front to the side or make a middle part with your fingers.
Don't blow dry the sides flat — leave them natural.
Use light wax or clay, very small amount. Rub between palms, apply only to the ends of the top, not the roots. Mess it up a little for that natural curtain.

Final Check from front:
You should see: Short sides visible below, long top covering the line where they meet, middle part or comma bangs in front, volume on top.

Common mistake: Fading too high. For this haircut, if you fade high, you lose the BTS look and it becomes a regular crop. Keep the sides low taper only.

5 Main Purposes of Sectioning for Side Connection

1. To control the hair and see what you're cutting
When you section, you isolate the sides from the top. That way the long hair on top doesn't fall into the faded side and confuse you. You see the exact line you need to connect.

2. To create a clear guide for blending
The first section you cut becomes your guide. Example: You cut one small section on the side parietal area (the corner where side meets top) to the length you want, then you connect all other sections to that same length. No guide = uneven fade.

3. To keep both sides even and balanced
If you don't section, the left side will almost always end up higher or shorter than the right. Sectioning into left side, right side, and top lets you check: "Is my connection point at the same height on both sides?"

4. To make blending easier and faster
That bulky corner on the side is the hardest part. By sectioning it out (usually with a horseshoe section on top), you can use scissors-over-comb or clipper-over-comb ONLY on that connection area without touching the rest. Less bulk, smoother transition.

5. To handle different hair growth and texture
Male hair doesn't grow the same direction on the sides vs. top. The sides often grow down, the top grows forward. Sectioning lets you cut each area in its natural growth direction, so the connection doesn't stick out or create a hole later.

6. Bonus: For clean and professional results
When you section properly, you don't have random long hairs hiding and popping out after the client leaves. The side-to-top connection stays connected even when the client styles it at home.

The simple sectioning pattern most barbers use for side connection:

Horseshoe section — Section off the top (from temple to temple over the crown). Clip it up. Now sides are isolated.
Side sections — Left side and right side are now separate working zones.
Connect — That's where you do your fade and scissors-over-comb to join the side length to the horseshoe line.

If you don't section that horseshoe, you'll keep cutting the top too short trying to connect it to the sides — that's the #1 mistake beginners make.

For a faded cut, trimming scissors / shears aren't just for the top — they're what makes the fade actually look clean and blended. Here are 7 main purposes:

1. Blending the transition
Clippers leave a hard line between the faded sides and the longer top. Scissors let you blend that line by cutting the hair right where the two lengths meet, so there's no visible step.

2. Removing bulk
After you fade with clippers, the parietal ridge (the corner where head starts to curve) often puffs out. You use scissors over comb to take out that bulk and flatten the shape.

3. Detailing around ears and edges
Clippers are too big and aggressive around the ears, sideburns, and neckline. Trimming scissors give you control for those tight, curved areas without taking off too much.

4. Texturizing the top to connect to the fade
For a modern fade (low, mid, high, skin fade), the top needs texture so it flows into the fade. Point-cutting and slide-cutting with scissors creates that seamless flow.

5. Cleaning up stray hairs
After fading, there are always longer stray hairs sticking out of the faded area. Scissors over comb is the cleanest way to snip them off and make the fade look smooth under light.

6. Refining the overall shape / silhouette
Fades are all about shape. Scissors let you sculpt the final silhouette — making sure both sides are even, the crown lays right, and the head looks balanced from every angle.

7. Safer precision work
For clients with moles, bumps, or sensitive skin on the lower fade line, using scissors instead of going too close with clippers prevents nicks and irritation.
