1. Moisturise
Applying an unscented lotion or body oil will always help the fragrance hold longer.

2. Spray it only on pulse points
Common pulse points that work well; the wrists, the clavicles, behind the knees and right behind your ears.

3. Check your concentration
Different variants have different concentrations of perfume; an eau de toilette lasts about 3-4 hours at best, while an eau de parfum is stronger, and goes a good 6-7 hours without reapplication.

4. Brush it through your hair
Especially for people with longer hair, this hack is fantastic for keeping your scent on your person throughout the day.

5. Don’t rub your wrists together
The rubbing actually breaks down the chemicals in your scent, thereby hastening the process of it breaking down and losing its fragrance.

6. Layer fragrances
This is an interesting way to give your perfume a longer life on your person; start with a heavier scent, and then spritz a lighter one that ties into the notes of the heavier one right after. The first one fades and commingles with the second, which comes in later; kind of like a little perfume afterparty.

7. Always spray your skin
…and not your clothes. Not only can perfume oils be damaging to certain fabrics (anything from breaking down fibres to staining irreversibly), scents last very little on them. On skin, however, they live a lot longer; and cause zero wreckage in the bargain.

8. Store your perfume smartly
It all starts with proper storage; keep your perfumes on display on a dressing table dappled with sunlight, and you can be sure they’ll weaken over time. Keep them in their original boxes, and in a cool dark place and you preserve its strength; which directly translates to lasting longer when you wear it.

9. Apply right after a shower
Bathing opens up your pores like nothing else will, making your skin the most perfect receptacle for a scent. Dry your skin, moisturise just a touch and then spray your perfume; you’re guaranteed an extra couple of hours, easy.
