MACTAN ECONOMIC ZONE LAPU-LAPU

The Mactan Economic Zone (MEPZ) has been a cornerstone of our city's progress since it was established in 1979 under Proclamation No. 1811. What started as a visionary project on a 150-hectare industrial estate has transformed Lapu-Lapu City from a quiet municipality into a bustling highly urbanized hub. From the early days of MEPZ 1 to the expansion of MEPZ 2 in the 90s, this zone has served as the gateway for global electronics, apparel, and high-tech manufacturing, putting Opon on the international map of trade and industry.

Today, MEPZ stands as a testament to the resilience and skill of the Oponganon workforce. It is a powerhouse of opportunity where hundreds of thousands of workers—over 100,000 directly employed—earn a living to support their families. As we move forward with new developments like the proposed Aerotropolis and further expansions, MEPZ continues to be the lifeblood of our local economy, proving that our city isn't just a world-class tourism destination, but a premier island paradise for investment and global innovation.
