Did you know Spearmint essential oil is sourced from India?

Farmers have been growing spearmint there for generations and continue to grow it along with the other crops they produce in order to supplement their income. With the right climate, spearmint can actually be harvested twice a year. This plant allows farmers to increase their income as much as 40% per year. After harvesting, the plant material is sent to the distillery, which uses the biowaste of previous distillations to fuel the boiler.

After distillation, the farmers take the essential oil to our partner in India for purity testing. Once Spearmint is verified for purity, the farmers can sell it on the spot or take the essential oil to a different buyer. They generally sell directly to our partner because of fair and transparent pricing.

After shipping the essential oil to doTERRA®, individual bottles are then distributed globally. Spearmint is valued for its refreshing aroma and cleansing abilities.
