✨ From Multiply Days to Today — A Message From a Long-Time Online Seller

I started selling online back in 2007 during the Multiply days. When Facebook came, it became much easier to connect with customers. We also tried Lazada before, but at that time it was inconvenient because sellers still had to go to their office to claim their sales.

In 2016, as one of Multiply’s big sellers, Shopee personally reached out to us so we could help launch their platform in the Philippines. I still remember Justin from Shopee, one of their managers, who encouraged us and other Facebook sellers to join. Back then, Shopee was seller-friendly — no fees, free shipping, and refunded shipping costs. Many sellers joined because the platform really supported small businesses.

But over time, things changed.

More and more couriers partnered with Shopee (I remember Xend Express, then SPX, and others). Fees also increased — from the old 3% platform fee + 1.5% payment fee to multiple charges today: commissions, shipping fees, transaction fees, and more.

Then came the price wars.

Divisoria sellers joined, followed by China, Korea, Japan, and Indonesia sellers who could sell at extremely low prices. Many of them do not pay Philippine taxes, are not monitored locally, and can even sell items without FDA approval, while local sellers must comply with all regulations.

To compete, small sellers had to lower profits to ₱10–₱20 per item just to survive.

Today, the challenges are even bigger — higher fees (sometimes reaching 30% total), courier scams, buyer scams, and dispute systems that often favor buyers even when sellers provide packing videos.

It’s becoming harder for Filipino SMEs to survive on these platforms.

So to our suki, followers, friends, and family — if you want to support small businesses like ours, please consider buying directly from sellers outside the platform. Prices are usually higher inside the app because of fees. You can always ask for a discount or request a cheaper courier rate — most small sellers are happy to help.

We are not giving up — but many of us are just trying to make ends meet.
