27 April 2026 β The Department of Science and Technology β Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) officially opened this yearβs National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE), an annual platform that promotes and showcases Filipino innovations from across the country.
One of the highlights of the event was the Stakeholdersβ Recognition for International Inventors, which honored individuals and organizations that brought pride to the Philippines through their global achievements. Among the awardees, Bauertek Farmaceutical Technologies stood out for earning multiple Gold Medals from international competitions held in Poland (2024), the United States (2025), and most recently, Romania (2026).
These accomplishments demonstrate the growing capability of Filipino innovators to compete and excel on the global stage, reinforcing the countryβs position in the field of science and technology.
The recognition was formally presented by DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., DOST-TAPI Director Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines Director General Atty. Teodoro C. Pascua.
This recognition reflects the theme of NICE 2026: βLimitless: Innovation Beyond Boundaries,β celebrating the boundless potential of Filipino excellence.

24 FEBRUARY 2026 - Richard Nixon Gomez, General Manager of Bauertek Farmaceutical Technologies, and Rigel Gomez, President of the company, attended the 2nd Joint Meeting of the Committee on Dangerous Drugs and the Committee on Health to discuss the proposed medical cannabis legislation.
Representing the Scientific sector, Richard Nixon Gomez presented insights on the global medical cannabis market and outlined how the Philippines can strategically position itself once legalization is enacted, emphasizing regulatory compliance, patient safety, research, and economic growth.
Richard and his son, Rigel, are the inventors of CanCur, the first Philippine-made medical cannabis formulation, which won the Grand Prize at the ENNOVATE: International Innovation and Invention Summit in 2024.
The proposed bill has gained support from key government agencies, including the Dangerous Drugs Board, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration, reflecting broad institutional support for a regulated and science-based medical cannabis framework in the Philippines.
