Health and Parenting tips💪🏻 02/07/2024

Maia (Iyah's baby sis)started training today. She's 16mo old tomorrow 🤩 successful 💩 already today!

Iyah is 19months old and successfully potty-trained for day time, even for night sleeping time! 💯Goodbye, diapers! 🤩💕

Potty-training should start after you see signs of readiness in your child.

This is a natural process and can be gradual. Children tend to be intuitive about what their bodies require, and unconsciously they’ll know when they are ready. It will happen at a pace that’s right for them and not on parents’ schedules. However, you can still encourage them by speaking naturally about their bodies’ functions every diaper change right after birth.

✅Signs of Readiness for Potty-training:

Your child...
* is between 15 months to 3 years old
* is walking and can sit for short periods of time
* is becoming generally more independent when it comes to completing tasks
* is becoming interested in watching others go to the toilet (I didn't have a choice when Iyah was little, I had to bring her with me to the comfort room when I go p*e because no one else will hold her)
* has dry diapers for up to two hours – this shows s/he can store p*e in his/her bladder (which automatically empties in younger babies or newborns)
* tells you with words or gestures when s/he poos or p*es in his/her diaper (in our case, Iyah started with sitting on the potty tub or pointing at it whenever she's going to p*e)
* begins to dislike wearing a diaper, tries to pull it off when it’s wet or soiled
* has regular, soft, formed bowel movements
* can follow simple instructions / understand simple sentences

Your child doesn't have to demonstrate all but mostly show interest, awareness when s/he is eliminating, practices some independence, and has dry diapers. 👍🏻

(⬆️Some notes partially taken from Momtessori PH's imformative post)

Awake time training is beneficial but during their sleeping time, parents won't have much interference with how they p*e or poo. Make sure to put a diaper on baby or have waterproof bedpad to avoid accidents on the bed.

💯What worked for Iyah's successful Potty-training after showing signs of readiness?

- Mommy Li did 3x of trial if Iyah is ready already:
15m old Iyah (still not ready, p*es 3x in her underwear 1hr and won't sit on the potty)
17m old Iyah (still not ready, p*es every hour in underwear)
18m old Iyah (ready for Potty-training and successfully became trained within 2wks! Dry diapers at night is one of the clear signs of Readiness)
- if your child seems scared of the potty tub or won't sit on it or cry when you make them sit in the tub, then they're not ready yet
- every waking moment from sleep bring your child to the potty tub and allow her to sit on it (for girls) or stand next to it(for boys) while urging for your child to p*e "wiwi ka na" (go p*e already)
- whenever Iyah would suddenly pause from what she's doing or hold her hip and stare blankly in space then stand, I bring her to the potty tub because that is her cue before she p*es. So know your child's cue.
- WATCH YOUR KID LIKE A HAWK so you'll see her cues and know them.
- bring baby to potty tub every 1hr 30mins. If she p*es then great, if not, then wait for 20 mins then bring her again, if not, then wait 10 mins and bring her. I do this to avoid accidents of p*eing in her underwear.
- always let baby wear breathable underwear during awake time, no diapers when at home (I prefer cotton underwear for Iyah, Bebe by Soen brand)
- I PERSONALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND NAKED POTTY-TRAINING. It is unhygienic in my opinion because baby may touch ge****ls or groin area may have contact with unclean places or things.
- when you see baby straining to 💩, immediately bring to potty tub and let her sit. Feet should be flat on the ground ang legs must be spread slightly. Good position lets your baby pass 💩 easily. Encourage p**ping, I say "Poopoo ka na." (You can go p**p now)
- ask baby always if she's gonna p*e. Like every minute if she hasn't p*ed yet and if you feel that she may need to already. I say "Are you going to p*e? If you're gonna p*e, tell nanay (mother) ha? You p*e here" (then I point to potty tub)
- after Iyah p*es or 💩, I always tell her to say BYE BYE to her output "Oh bye bye ka na sa wiwi/p**p mo". (Say bye bye to your wiwi/ p**p)She waves bye at her p*e or 💩 and says BYE BYE. This helps kids to know that it came from their body and now they are departing from that waste and helps them to not get scared of letting it go. Making them more and more comfortable each time they do it.
- clean the potty tub immediately when there is output (i rinse p*e with water / 💩is dumped in toilet and then tub is rinsed with bath soap and water) sterilize it by wiping with alcohol or vinegar and always wipe the potty tub dry so baby will always be comfortable when using it
- avoid scolding your child when they have accidents because they may associate p*eing or p**ping with you getting mad, which will just make them not ready again for training because they will get scared of their bodily functions (I really tried hard as I can not to get mad whenever I had to clean such accidents and it paid off!)
- whenever she has a success, I say. "You did it, high five!" 🙋🏻‍♀️ She's always so smiley and happy everytime!
- make sure to wipe dry your baby girl's groin area with a clean cloth after she p*es to avoid infection (I use gauze cotton lampin), no need to wash baby girl's va**na every after p*eing but if you really have to, just use water only. ⚠️SOAP CAN DESTROY YOUR BABY'S VAGINA'S PH LEVEL AND SO FREQUENT SOAP WASHING MAY CAUSE INFECTIONS. Wipe from front of groin to back to avoid contaminating the va**na with bacteria from the a**s! Remember that the va**na is a self-cleaning organ which must be washed externally with mild soap 2x a day only.
- if the baby p**ped, wash with mild soap and water. Wash va**na or p***s first and then wash the a**s and butt area. And wipe your baby's groin and butt area dry with a clean cloth.
- mid -day nap time she wears panty only but I place a cotton waterproof bedpad to avoid the bed getting soaked ( I am proud to say that she has wet the bed only once)
- night sleep time. Iyah sleeps through the night because she is trained to do that so I still made her wear disposable taped diaper during every 12hr night sleep. (My routine training and sleeping through the night blog: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=120596179523770&id=112388013677920 )
- before bedtime routine and before naptime, take your baby to p*e in the potty tub
-feed your 6m+ old baby a light snack 1hr before bedtime (a sandwich or a banana or a small bowl of oatmeal oatmeal), this is filling enought so that baby doesn't have to breastfeed a lot to become full and eventually fall asleep

❣️Remember that each child has their own pacing. Nobody is perfect so having accidents sometimes even in potty-trained kids is normal. For us it took 2weeks because Iyah was very ready and responsive to the Potty-training. Parents, keep yourself calm always and smile when they have an output in the potty tub. She now points to her potty tub when she waants to p*e or poo or says "wiwi" or "p**poo". I now believe her when she says no or nods yes to my question "Do you want to p*e or 💩?" because she really answers it right depending on her urge to go.
19m old: She is only in washable reusable cloth diapers (environment-friendly) during 12hr night sleep (just to ensure that she won't wet the bed while I am asleep so I can't take her to the potty tub) and no more bedpads during nap time because I make her p*e before she gets to her mid-day nap of 2hrs.
19m and 10 days old: (in her own readiness)She began telling me during mid of the night sleep (around 3am) that she wants to go p*e and so I bring her to the potty to p*e. She sleeps right back after p*eing, no need to coax her into sleeping again because she is sleep-trained.
19m and 20 days old (May 2021): No more cloth diapers💯💯, completely potty-trained for day and night!😊👏🏻👏🏻 (I keep a cotton waterproof bedpad under the bedsheet to make sure the mattress won't get soaked if she accidentally p*es just in case)
