I think one of the hardest things is being misunderstood by someone you trusted enough to show your vulnerable side to.

I opened up about my pain because I thought you would understand, not because I wanted your pity. I was telling you what I was going through, not asking you to use those things against me whenever we disagreed.

It hurts when the things I shared in trust become the same things you use to judge me. You saw my weakest moments, but instead of trying to understand where I was coming from, you turned them into reasons to define who I am.

Maybe you only saw my reactions, but you never really tried to understand the pain behind them.

And that's what I’ve learned: **you can be honest about your pain and still be misunderstood. You can trust someone and still discover that they were never a safe place for your vulnerability.**

So I’m not ashamed of what I shared. I just learned to be more careful about who I share it with.

Vulnerability should be shared with people who know how to handle it with care.

I’ve realized that as we grow older, we really have to be more selective with the people we allow into our lives.

Not because we think we’re better than others, but because not everyone will understand our intentions, our struggles, or the things we share in the way we meant them. Sometimes, you open up because you trust someone, only to realize that they can easily misunderstand your vulnerability.

So now, I believe it’s okay to be careful with who we trust, who we open up to, and who we give access to our personal lives.

**Being selective isn’t being cold. Sometimes, it’s simply learning how to protect your peace.**
