AUTOPHAGY
Autophagy is a natural, self-preservation mechanism whereby the body removes damaged or dysfunctional parts of a cell and recycles other parts toward cellular repair.
Autophagy is the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells, according to Priya Khorana, PhD, in nutrition education from Columbia University.
“Auto” means self and “phagy” means eat. So the literal meaning of autophagy is “self-eating.”
Ang the skin not sagging out with low carb, AUTOPHAGY plays a big role!

Why Are Triglycerides the Real Problem, Not Cholesterol?
(CREDITS: Bryan Gillet)
For years, cholesterol has been painted as the villain in heart disease, but here’s the truth: elevated triglycerides are a far more telling marker of metabolic dysfunction. Let’s break it down:
1️⃣ What Are Triglycerides?
Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. After you eat, your body converts excess calories (especially from carbs and sugar) into triglycerides for storage. When levels are high, it means your body isn’t burning fat efficiently—it’s storing it instead.
2️⃣ Why High Triglycerides Are Dangerous
High triglycerides are closely linked to:
• Insulin Resistance: Chronically elevated triglycerides are a warning sign that your cells aren’t responding to insulin properly, leading to prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes.
• Inflammation: Triglycerides contribute to systemic inflammation, which damages blood vessels and promotes plaque buildup.
• Heart Disease: High triglycerides combined with low HDL cholesterol increase your risk of atherosclerosis (narrowed arteries), heart attack, and stroke.
3️⃣ Triglycerides vs. Cholesterol: The Real Story
The focus on cholesterol levels (LDL specifically) oversimplifies the issue. High cholesterol on its own isn’t always dangerous—what matters is the context:
• If you have low triglycerides and high HDL, your heart disease risk is low, even if your LDL is elevated.
• If you have high triglycerides, low HDL, and high LDL, that’s when the danger spikes. This pattern points to poor metabolic health and chronic inflammation.
4️⃣ How to Lower Triglycerides Naturally
The good news? Triglycerides respond quickly to lifestyle changes:
• Cut the Carbs: Triglycerides skyrocket when you eat sugar and refined carbs. A low-carb, high-fat diet slashes them fast.
• Focus on Healthy Fats: Prioritize animal fats, butter, and tallow over seed oils (like canola or soybean), which worsen inflammation.
• Intermittent Fasting: Giving your body a break from constant eating helps burn stored fat and normalize triglycerides.
• Exercise Regularly: Strength training and low-intensity movement improve insulin sensitivity, helping your body clear triglycerides more efficiently.
5️⃣ The Ideal Triglyceride-to-HDL Ratio
One of the best markers of heart health isn’t your total cholesterol—it’s your triglyceride-to-HDL ratio. Aim for a ratio of 1:1 or lower. For example:
• Triglycerides: 80 mg/dL
• HDL: 80 mg/dL
This indicates good metabolic health. Ratios above 2:1 suggest insulin resistance and a higher risk of heart disease.
The Bottom Line
Don’t fear cholesterol—it’s not the enemy. Instead, focus on lowering triglycerides and improving your HDL. By reducing carbs, eating nutrient-dense animal fats, and prioritizing metabolic health, you can take control of your heart health without falling into the trap of outdated cholesterol myths.
