Her hand-embroidered Caras series has been a fan favorite for many years--images of colorful faces peppered with floral and folk patterns embellishing bags, jackets and footwear--and this time we're meeting the badings. ‼️🙃

The Barbierro x Bidibidi collab features images of q***rness you can wear as a cap or shirt. Lovingly called Bidibidings, each piece of the is unique in color or style, and no two pieces are ever the same. Because dearie, you put the "u" in "unique," the "eme" in "emeritus" and the "u" in "popular!" 🥲😅

Dolly Parton, the trans ally. 🏳️‍⚧️

In 2005, director Duncan Tucker asked to write a theme song for the independent film Transamerica, a film centered on a trans woman on a road trip with her long-lost son. Dolly immediately agreed after watching an unfinished cut of the film.

She woke up the very next day, deeply moved, and wrote the tender, spiritually-themed ballad "Travelin' Thru" in a single day. The song earned Dolly an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song (following her 1980 hit "9 to 5"), with Golden Globe and Grammy nominations along the way.

Today at Barbierro Barbershop, whose brand is inspired in part by her role as the home-based beautician Truvy in Steel Magnolias (1989), we mourn the passing of an LGBTQI+ ally and icon. She lives forever.

And as for why this label matters? It’s because it matters to us—the people it was built for. 🏳️‍🌈

No to Baks Silica

The Filipino salon chain founded by veteran hairstylist and beauty entrepreneur Ricky Reyes is promoting itself as “the first AI Salon in the whole Asia-Pacific,” offering a range of services it says incorporate AI technology.

A promotional display at one of its branches advertises a free “AI Hairstyle and Hair Color Analysis,” alongside several AI-branded services including rebonding, hair coloring, hair waxing, scalp carboxy treatment and cryo hair treatment.

The most direct application of AI appears to be in hair analysis and consultation, potentially allowing customers to assess hairstyles, hair colors or hair conditions before undergoing a service. The actual cutting, coloring and treatment, however, remain services performed by salon professionals.

Among the offerings advertised are an “AI 8 Reborn” priced at ₱3,300, “AI One-Hour Rebond Xpress” at ₱3,000, hair waxing at ₱3,000, scalp carboxy treatment at ₱2,500, regular hair color at ₱2,500 and cryo hair treatment at ₱2,500. Some packages come with complimentary hair analysis, detoxification or other treatments.

The campaign marks another evolution for Gandang Ricky Reyes, one of the country’s long-running salon brands. Reyes, popularly known as “Mother Ricky,” built his name in the Philippine beauty industry through salons, television appearances and training programs for aspiring hairstylists.

GRR’s sweeping claim of being the first AI salon in the entire Asia-Pacific, however, is the company’s own. No independent certification or authoritative regional registry establishing it as the first such salon was presented in the advertisement.

Still, the move illustrates how the AI boom is reaching industries far removed from the technology sector, with businesses increasingly using artificial intelligence as part of customer consultation and personalized services.

In Gandang Ricky Reyes’ case, AI has officially reached the salon chair.
