"It’s just a bad period." I’ve heard it, and many of the 1 in 10 women living with Endometriosis have heard it too.

My name is Eena Garcia, and I have Endometriosis. For a long time, there has been a stigma around this condition, but I’m here to say: there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Living with a chronic illness isn't a choice, but how we support those who do is. I am incredibly lucky to have a great support system in my corner, but not everyone does. Endo is a debilitating medical reality, it is not a joke, and it should never be used as a reason to bully or belittle someone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, here is what to do:

Track Your Symptoms: Keep a detailed log of pain, bloating, and cycle irregularities to show your doctor.

Seek a Specialist: Don't settle for "it's normal." Find a gynecologist who specializes in excision surgery or chronic pelvic pain.

Advocate for Yourself: If you feel dismissed, get a second opinion. Your pain is real.

Offer Support, Not Judgment: If a friend has to cancel plans or is struggling with "Endo belly," believe them. A little empathy goes a long way.
