I gave you bits and pieces of my heart
It began way back, right from the start
I never did imagine that you would walk away
And I would lose those pieces of myself someday

I gave you love and hope and faith
I gave and gave and you were happy to take
You kept saying things are fine
I wish that I could turn back time

I’m not sure exactly when things went wrong
The moment when we no longer got along
I knew that things just weren’t right
And I’d lie awake all through the night

Now I’m lying here all alone
Hoping and praying that you will phone
I’m trying to fill the holes you left
And I find that I am left bereft

For the only thing to fill them is you
Sadly I know that time is through
So I’ll put back the pieces one by one
I’ll be grateful when my task is done

Someday that ache will go away
I just have to take it day by day
Bits and pieces of my heart and mind
I will reclaim them all, given time.
