Canine parvovirus is a disease that affects puppies and young dogs. Any young dog who exhibits vomiting or diarrhea should be suspected of having canine parvovirus. Canine parvovirus infection is extremely contagious and causes gastrointestinal illness in young dogs.
Parvovirus is a non-enveloped, single-stranded DNA virus. It is resistant to all household detergents and disinfectants. It can also withstand changes in temperature and pH.
Dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic abnormalities, heart failure brought on by myocarditis, and subsequent bacterial invasions all contribute to parvovirus-related death.
In a kennel where an outbreak has occurred, strict hygiene measures should be implemented.
Animals that are infected or diseased should be separated from healthy animals.
All excreta (f***s) should be disposed of properly, and the premises should be disinfected.
Vaccination is highly recommended...
