PNP STEPS UP SAFER CITIES OPERATIONS AFTER BATANGAS ROBBERY INCIDENTS; ONE SUSPECT ARRESTED IN FOLLOW-UP QUEZON OPERATION

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified police visibility and follow-up operations under the Safer Cities Initiative following two (2) robbery incidents involving convenience stores in San Juan, Batangas on April 15, 2026.

Initial reports show unidentified suspects entered two establishments in Laiya Aplaya and Nagsaulay and took cash before fleeing onboard a motorcycle. No injuries were reported, and all personnel were confirmed safe.

Police units immediately conducted hot pursuit and dragnet operations in coordination with nearby stations and communication centers to establish leads and possible escape routes, which led to a follow-up operation by Tiaong MPS and 1st QPMFC that resulted in an armed encounter at around 8:35 PM in Sitio Baybayin, Brgy. Pury, San Antonio, Quezon.

The operation led to the arrest of a 24-year old male suspect, resident of Brgy. Banlic, Calamba City, who is now under custody of Tiaong MPS.

Recovered from the suspect were one motorcycle, one caliber .45 pistol, one magazine loaded with four live ammunition, and one black leather holster.

The suspect was brought to Candelaria District Hospital for medical attention, while SOCO processed the scene. Coordination continues to determine possible links to the earlier robbery incidents.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., assured the public of continued action.

“We assure the public that we are continuously working on this case. Hindi po tayo hihinto hangga’t hindi natin nakikita ang malinaw na resulta. We also encourage the public to share any information that may help,” he said.

He emphasized that the PNP continues to enhance coordination and field deployment to prevent similar incidents and ensure public safety.

“Asahan po ng ating mga kababayan ang tuloy-tuloy na police presence at mabilis na aksyon. We are committed to ensuring safer communities through proactive policing and stronger collaboration on the ground,” he added.

These efforts are aligned with the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, supporting the broader directive to strengthen safer communities through consistent and responsive police presence.

Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to fully establish the circumstances of the incidents, while security measures in nearby areas have been further strengthened.

The PNP remains committed to its mandate of protecting communities and sustaining peace and order, in line with its vision of a Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.
