That forehead-slapping realization that we can actually heal ourselves usually comes with a wave of relief—and a healthy dose of guilt, thanks to GMCKS.

Davao hasn’t seen rain in weeks. By week two, my neck erupted in an itchy, prickly rash. By the end of week three, it was red, rough, and undeniably unglamorous. With a busy week looming, I desperately tried to find a dermatologist — but struck out.

Then I remembered Master’s iconic jab: "The problem with pranic healers is they do not heal themselves."

Ouch. Guilty.

With my laser crystal and saltwater basin, I opted for the "acute allergy" protocol instead of just "skin allergy". Lo and behold! I wasn’t even halfway through when the thick, angry inflammation started to fade. By the time I finished, it was like my neck had only gaslit me into desperation.

By Monday, only a faint shadow remained. (Sweating still triggers it in this heat, but a quick pranic heal for "itch" knocks it right out.)

So, yes, Master. Message received. I resolve to stop being exhibit A of your wise saying.

𝐖𝐀𝐍 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐈 𝐓𝐎𝐓 𝐛𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚

Have you ever heard a story so heartbreaking and absurd you somehow end up laughing?

Try volunteering in jail and experience the rollercoaster of emotions.

“Why are you here?”

“Drugs. Because of my partner.”

I blinked.

“My partner is serving time. He called and asked me to deliver drugs to his master (amo) inside the penitentiary.”

“But I prayed before I went,” she quickly added. “I prayed for safety and to get home to our children because I'm the only one left. I arrived home, safe.”

“And?”

“He called again.”

“And?”

“He asked me to do it again. He promised it would be the last time.”

“And you believe there’s a last time in drug trafficking?”

She went a second time.

She prayed again. She came home safe again.

Then he called a third time.

She protested. He promised — again — that it would be the last time.

So she went.

This time, after delivering the drugs safely, she got a call from her husband saying the drugs were allegedly fake. Her husband’s “master” also called and threatened her. Then the police arrested her.

Silence.

So many things running in my head as I saw a web of corruption and evil things going on in our penitentiaries. (If one woman can do this, how many more are doing this and who is that "master"???)

But that wasn't top of mind when I recovered my voice and my senses.

“Did you realize you were asking God to keep you safe while committing a crime?”

She stared at me as if that was the first time she saw it that way.

“Did you realize you made God your accomplice?”

She cried.

I giggled, and she giggled too amid tears.

The absurdity was too much.

We encourage the women in jail to pray before doing anything: upon waking up, before accomplishing any tasks, before eating, etc. But apparently, some have not been properly schooled on the basics of good and bad early in life. We did say, pray before doing anything...

I reserved the lecture for the next week and addressed it to all.

Indeed, our eyes are opened to the realities of life beyond our own perspective when serving in jail, and in there, discernment needs to be emphasized, starting with guiding them to recognize the bad from the good.

It's basic, right? If you agree, be grateful. Not all people have had that nurturing, that guidance, that character formation to be able to discern. There are lots of things we take for granted, things that land other people in jail. Be grateful for the nurturing.

Caveat: We heal many persons deprived of liberty every Monday, I do not recall all of them. Luckily, this woman was among those I can't recall, the ridiculousness of her action hogged my thoughts, leaving no space for her name and face in my memory. She will forever remain anonymous. Thank you, Lord, for small mercies.
