RESEARCH | Due to rising costs or the inaccessibility of commercial water, many rural communities rely on artesian well (“poso”) water as their primary water source. This study looked at artesian well water samples from selected barangays in Los Baños, Laguna. Of the 30 water samples, eight have exhibited f***l contamination, three of which were identified as contaminated by Escherichia coli. The E. coli isolates were resistant to antibiotics, with one isolate resistant to four antibiotics. The study highlights the crucial role of local government units in monitoring water quality in communities.

Please allow me to clarify this as a number of parents has been asking about the recent news on TV regarding a boy who expired after a circumcision has been performed.
First, what is circumcision? Allow me to grab an AI definition for this: “Circumcision is the surgical removal of the fo****in, the retractable fold of skin covering the g***s (tip) of the pen*s”. Circumcision by itself will not cause a patient’s immediate demise. If something went wrong with the circumcision, it would take hours or days before the onset of symptoms would be noted. Among the complications of circumcision are: bleeding, infection and pain. All of which, again, cannot cause immediate death.
So what went wrong?
A good guess would be the manner of administration of local anesthesia. Again, this is a guess. Lidocaine is a local anesthesia that is commonly used in such procedure. And these are the toxic effects of Lidocaine which may cause an untoward outcome, a number of which was seen on the same patient.
Please go to your pediatrician’s recommended surgeons or pediatric urologists for circumcision procedure. Choose hospital based location for said procedure. Don’t fall prey to “nearby”, “more convenient” and “cheaper” clinics if you’re not even sure about the clinic’s integrity.
Our prayers to the boy and his family in this very sad event.
