If you’re experiencing breakouts on your chest or back especially during summer or after workouts, sweat and tight clothing may be a major trigger.

Here’s why it happens:

🔹 Fabric friction irritates the skin

Tight clothing causes repeated rubbing, which weakens the skin barrier and makes pores more prone to inflammation and breakouts.

🔹 Prolonged moisture creates the perfect environment for acne-causing bacteria

Sweat trapped on the skin, especially under tight or non-breathable fabrics, can clog pores and worsen acne.

🔹 Delayed showering allows bacteria and oil to stay longer on the skin

After sweating, it’s important to cleanse as soon as possible to prevent buildup.

What you can do:

✔️ Wear loose, breathable fabrics

✔️ Change clothes immediately after sweating

✔️ Shower and cleanse your skin gently after workouts

✔️ Avoid staying in sweaty clothes for long periods

If breakouts continue despite proper hygiene, medical treatment may be needed. Some cases require prescription creams, washes, or oral medication.

Some patients ask me, “Doc, bakit parang mas umiitim ang melasma ko pag summer… kahit nasa loob lang ako?”

You’re not imagining it.

Melasma can worsen not just from direct sun exposure, but also from UVA rays that pass through windows and even heat itself, which can stimulate pigment cells.

That’s why consistent sun protection — including the right sunscreen — is very important.

▶️ I explained this more clearly in the carousel.

If your melasma has been getting darker despite skincare, it may need a more structured treatment plan.

Summer activities mean more sun exposure, sweating, and outdoor play.

While most skin issues are mild, there are warning signs parents should never ignore.

Here’s when your child’s skin needs urgent medical attention:

🚨 Blistering sunburn

If you see blisters after sun exposure, this means the skin has suffered deeper damage. This can be painful and increases the risk of infection and long-term skin damage.

🚨 Spreading redness

If redness continues to spread, becomes warm, swollen, or painful, this may be a sign of infection or severe inflammation — not just a simple rash.

🚨 Presence of pus or fever

Pus, yellow crusting, or fever may indicate a bacterial infection that requires medical treatment. This should never be ignored, especially in children.

🚨 When symptoms don’t improve or worsen quickly

If the skin condition worsens, spreads rapidly, or your child feels unwell, it’s important to seek medical care immediately.

Early treatment helps prevent complications and supports faster healing.

If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait.

📩 Book an urgent consultation so your child can receive proper care safely.

Many parents ask me this after HFMD or chickenpox: “Doc, bakit may dark marks pa rin months later?”

The good news is most of these are not permanent scars. They’re usually pigmentation that fades over time.

In this video, I explained:

🌸 The difference between pigmentation and true scars
🌸 How long fading usually takes
🌸 When you should consider treatment
🌸 And what’s safe for kids

Big pores can be frustrating but here’s the truth: pore size itself can’t be permanently changed.

What can improve is how visible they look.

With the right ingredients, sun protection, and consistent habits, pore appearance can be minimized over time.

If pores have been bothering you despite trying many products, it may be time for a more personalized approach. Send me a DM for a consultation.

Not all skin patches are caused by dirt or sweat.

Sometimes, it’s a fungal condition that becomes more visible during hot weather.

Many patients delay treatment because they think it will go away on its own. But early treatment helps prevent spreading and recurrence.

Many patients tell me, “Doc, mark lang naman ‘to. Mawawala din.”

Sometimes yes. But sometimes, those dark marks are early signs of scarring.

Post-acne marks can be either pigmentation or structural damage. And the earlier we identify which one it is, the better we can treat it.

▶️ I explained the difference in the carousel so you know what to watch for.

If your marks aren’t improving, early treatment can prevent permanent scars. 📩 Book a consultation so we can guide you properly.

Scars don’t improve with random treatments. They improve with the right diagnosis and proper timing.

Different scar types need different treatments and that’s what I explained in this video.

Turning 30 doesn’t mean doing more to your skin.

It means doing the right things consistently.

Here are things I’ll NEVER do to my skin at 30 — as a dermatologist:

🚫 Skip sunscreen

Even indoors. Even on cloudy days.

Pigmentation and early aging don’t wait for sunny beach weather.

Daily SPF is non-negotiable.

🚫 Sleep with makeup on

Clogged pores, inflammation, dull skin — absolutely not.

No matter how tired you are, cleanse properly.

🚫 Over-exfoliate

More acids do NOT mean better skin.

Barrier damage shows up as redness, breakouts, and sensitivity — and that takes months to repair.

🚫 Chase every skincare trend

Your skin doesn’t need everything TikTok recommends.

It needs consistency and products suited to your skin type.

🚫 Use harsh treatments without guidance

“Strong” doesn’t mean effective.

Proper timing, skin prep, and professional supervision matter — especially in your 30s.

✨ Healthy skin in your 30s is about protection, patience, and discipline.

I get this question a lot:

“Doc, is shaving my face good or bad?”

The honest answer? It depends on your skin.

For some people, facial shaving can be okay.

It can remove fine vellus hair (peach fuzz), give very light exfoliation, and make makeup sit smoother. That’s why some patients like the glow right after.

But here’s where I want you to be careful.

If you have active acne, very sensitive skin, eczema, or rosacea: shaving can actually make things worse. I’ve seen cases where it triggered irritation, tiny cuts, folliculitis, or even dark marks afterward.

And no, shaving does NOT make hair grow back thicker or darker. That’s a myth. The hair just grows back with a blunt tip, so it feels coarser.

So who should avoid it?

If you have inflamed acne, a history of keloids or dark marks, active infections, or easily irritated skin, please don’t experiment at home.

Your skin condition matters more than the trend.

If you’re unsure whether it’s safe for you, let’s assess your skin properly first.

📩 Book a consultation and we’ll decide what’s best for your skin. 💛

Acne treatments are not one-size-fits-all.

What works for one patient may not work for another because acne type and skin condition matter.

Here’s how I look at these procedures in clinic 👇

🔹 Comedone Extraction (6/10)

✔️ Helps with closed comedones and clogged pores

⚠️ Not a long-term fix

⚠️ Adult skin scars and pigments more easily

Best for congestion, not inflamed acne.

🔹 Chemical Peel (6/10)

✔️ Excellent for adult acne

✔️ Helps with post-acne dark marks (PIH)

✔️ Improves texture and oil control

⚠️ Needs proper peel selection and spacing

One of my top choices when done correctly.

🔹 LED Light Therapy (7/10)

✔️ Calms inflammation

✔️ Good support for hormonal acne flares

⚠️ Results are gradual

⚠️ Works best combined with actives

Helpful but not a standalone cure.

🔹 Intralesional Injection (9/10)

✔️ Gold standard for painful cysts and nodules

✔️ Fast relief

⚠️ Treats the lesion, not the root cause

Great for “emergency” acne situations.

🔹 RF Microneedling (9/10)

✔️ Best for post-acne scars and laxity

⚠️ NOT for active inflammatory acne

Timing is very important.

Acne treatment is about the right combination, proper timing, and consistent follow-up — not just picking the highest-rated procedure.

If you’re unsure what your acne type needs, book a consultation and let’s create a plan that’s safe and effective for your skin. 💛

When we think of stress and skin, we usually think of acne.

But chronic stress can also show up as hives, eczema flare-ups, slow healing, or dull, tired-looking skin.

Stress affects your hormones and weakens your skin barrier — which is why your skin can suddenly feel more reactive.
