Get expert tips to have healthy skin, hair, and nails from the board-certified dermatologists of the Philippine Dermatological Society. WHAT IS DERMATOLOGY?

Dermatology is a branch of medicine that deals with the diseases and conditions of the skin, hair, and nails. It is both a medical and surgical field. WHAT IS THE PHILIPPINE DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY (PDS)? The PDS is the only medical society for dermatology recognized by the Philippine College of Physicians (P*P) and the Philippine Medical Association (PMA). This means that your PDS dermatologist is a TRUE EXPERT on matters of the skin, hair, and nails. HOW DOES ONE BECOME A DERMATOLOGIST IN THE PHILIPPINES? A dermatologist is a medical doctor who must train for three years at a hospital or institution approved by the PDS. These institutions are as follows:

East Avenue Medical Center
Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center
Makati Medical Center
Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center
Region 1 Medical Center
Research Institute for Tropical Medicine
Rizal Medical Center
Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc. Southern Philippines Medical Center
St. Luke's Medical Center QC
University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center
University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital
University of Santo Tomas

After training, the doctor must pass the board examinations from the Philippine Board of Dermatology to earn the title BOARD-CERTIFIED. Doctors who took seminars in dermatology or aesthetic courses but did not finish a formal three-year residency program from one of the PDS institutions are not dermatologists. To know if your doctor is a genuine dermatologist, look for the PDS sign or the PDS Seal of Excellence.
