𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝗺: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

What began as dreams formed in the laboratory rooms of the College of Health and Sciences blossomed into a moment of triumph on the national stage. Catherine Ashley Castillo Somera, a second-year Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BSMLS) student from the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) and reigning Ms. Ilocos Sur Tourism 2025, represented the province with pride as she emerged as the Miss Tourism Philippines 2025 3rd Runner-Up during the coronation night held on October 16, 2025, at the FLDY Coliseum in Cauayan City, Isabela.

In an interview, Ms. Somera revealed that joining Miss Tourism Philippines was never part of her original plan for the year. She had intended to slow down, focus on her studies, and take a break from the pageant scene. Torn between her academic responsibilities and the demanding preparations that another competition would require, she initially decided not to pursue it.

“Life really has its own beautiful way of surprising us. I later found out that my application had already been submitted without me knowing, and soon after, a letter from the Miss Tourism Philippines organization arrived, officially confirming that I would be representing my beloved Ilocos Sur.”

Ms. Somera likens her Miss Tourism Philippines journey to a full-circle moment; a puzzle piece falling into place for her, “God was reminding me that when something is truly meant for you, it will always find its way. From that moment on, I knew I had to do it because it wasn’t just about me anymore. It was about carrying the pride, the stories, and the warmth of my province on a national stage.” For her, the true victory lay not in the crown, but in the transformation—the confidence she discovered, the people she met, and the deeper sense of purpose she found along the way.

When asked about her post-pageant experience, the second-year student reflected, “Life after the pageant has been beautifully humbling. I still get messages from people telling me how proud they are, and it reminds me that what I did mattered—not just for me, but for the people I represent.”

She believes that her experience served as a reminder that timing is everything. What is meant for you will always find its way, often when you least expect it. Her journey in Miss Tourism Philippines became a lesson in courage and trust, showing that every hesitation and doubt was simply preparing her for something greater.

In the quiet corners of the laboratory where determination is tested as much as formulas, fate meets hard work, and together, they create triumph. Catherine Somera’s stride on the national stage stands as proof that success is never born from luck and fate alone but from persistence meeting purpose.
