Japanese national team outside hitter Yuki Ishikawa, who plays for league leaders Perugia, won the championship for the third time in the club’s history and for the first time in two sea*ons. In his 11th sea*on in the Italian league, Ishikawa became only the second Japanese player in 23 sea*ons to win the Scudetto, following Yoichi Kato during his Treviso era. After winning the Club World Championship last December and the Supercoppa in March, Perugia completed a treble this sea*on.

In Game 3, Perugia came from behind to defeat sixth-place Civitanova 3–1 (25–27, 26–24, 25–22, 25–20), sweeping the finals with three straight wins. Last sea*on, they had lost to the same opponent in the semifinals after blowing a 2–0 series lead. This time, they got their revenge on the championship stage. Perugia dominated the playoffs, winning all nine matches against Monza in the quarterfinals, Piacenza in the semifinals, and Civitanova in the finals to claim the title in emphatic fashion.
