LGBT Community Appeals to City Leaders After Discriminatory Incident at Talakudong Festival

Tacurong City — Members of the LGBT community will formally write to both the Mayor of Tacurong City and the Chief of Police following a discriminatory incident that occurred during the Talakudong Festival.

On September 12, 2025, at around 8:00 PM, at the main gate entrance of the City Hall, several LGBT individuals were directed by security personnel and marshals to line up under the “men’s line,” disregarding their gender identity and expression. The incident caused humiliation, distress, and exclusion during what should have been a unifying celebration of culture and tradition.

The affected individuals, whose names will be formally submitted to the authorities, expressed readiness to cooperate in any official inquiry.

The LGBT community has long been an ally of both the Tacurong City Government and the PNP, supporting programs on peace, safety, health, and community development. We have stood side by side with our leaders in advocacies and initiatives. We do not deserve to be treated in a way that diminishes our dignity.

Citing the 1987 Philippine Constitution, the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), and the Tacurong GAD Code, we are appealing for:
• An immediate investigation of the incident;
• An Executive Order or directive institutionalizing gender-fair practices in festivals and public events; and
• Mandatory inclusivity and sensitivity training for city personnel, security staff, and marshals.

Addressing this matter decisively will reaffirm Tacurong’s commitment to being a city that truly celebrates diversity, equality, and respect.

Discrimination has no place in Tacurong. The Talakudong Festival 2025 should unite, not divide us.
