Wednesday movement goodness!

Gentle exercise is a win-win activity. As it strengthens your bones, muscles, and circulatory system, physical activity also detoxifies your body, improves mental clarity, and reduces stress. It doesn't have to be overly strenuous and it shouldn't be! In Qigong and Tai Chi, consistency is usually better than intensity.

I tell my students that tai chi is great for our brain because it demands so many things at once. In the beginning, you’ve got to remember the steps, coordinate your arms and legs, keep an internal rhythm plus you’ve got to hold your balance. At each class you learn new movement patterns.

The key is you are learning something new with your body and coordinating movements at the same time rather than just repeating easy movements on autopilot.

Even when you've learnt the choreography of the form, say Yang 24 tai chi, you go on to the next stage of your learning. There is so much depth in the practice of tai chi that you get to discover with consistent practice and proper guidance.

Keep the body moving, keep your brain challenged and keep your heart connected to the other people in your class and in the wider community.

To put it simply: Qigong opens channels and balances energy. It is part of Chinese medicine's healing arts.

To put it simply: Tai Chi is a martial art that integrates qigong principles into flowing sequences.

When channels (meridians) are open, qi (energy) is able to move freely and especially if it is moving strongly, the body and mind are then considered to be healthy.
If the channels are blocked then the qi cannot move freely and imbalance sets in. Over time this is what is referred to as sickness or disease.
What causes channels to be blocked? Many reasons; some of which are injuries, lifestyle choices, poor nutrition, stress, heightened emotions.

If qigong or tai chi is an art you've always wanted to learn, I can help you.

Face to face classes start on Saturday, 4 July.
