The Ateneo Professional Schools is now on its second year organizing a run for cause that will benefit the less privilege sectors of the community. Last year, our first ever Run For A Cause was a huge success gathering almost 700 runners from the 500 participants that we only expected to join the run. Along with the Ateneo Alumni Association and Ateneo Graduate School of Business Alumni Associatio

n Inc., we are bringing you a bigger run, with 2,500 expected runners, our aim is to provide more help beneficiaries, the ACED Blue Plate Program and the Marawi Assistance Movement through Synergeia. ACED Blue Plate Program, the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) was established in February 1992 under Fr. Nebres, SJ, then president of the Ateneo. ACED spearheads the University’s mission to close the poverty gap and improve the quality of life through improving public basic education in scale. While ACED continue to help improve the quality education in public school by providing training to principals and teachers, facilitating the construction of classrooms, and upgrading instructional materials, it has realized that malnutrition among public school student is a serious problem. For truly, how can a hungry child learn? ACED has embarked on feeding programs in Metro Manila, Cainta, and Camarines Norte. These provide hot and nutritious lunch meals for more than 20,000 malnourished children for 130 school days. Beneficiaries are generally children in public school (day care, kindergarten, grade 1 to 6). Synergeia (see-ner-hee-yuh) a coalition of individuals, institution, and organizations working to improve the quality of basic education by implementing programs for nearly 1.5 million school children, working with over 260 municipalities all over the Philippines. Traditionally, the delivery of education is primarily left to the Department of Education with marginal participation from the community. Synergeia believes that it takes a village to raise a child. Collaborative efforts among education stakeholders are crucial to the success of any education program. Synergeia engages local governments, the Department of Education, socio-civic group, schools, teachers, parent, and students to implement systemic programs that will increase learning achievement and reduce drop outs.
