''I think I started this journey kay I learned about the circular economy in one of my classes. I'm studying BS Entrepreneurship and all you'll think of when you're in business is sourcing, production, marketing, tapos pag na palit nas consumers ang products you stop thinking about it na dayon.

It's very linear and nobody holds the responsibility of properly disposing the packaging and the product mismo when ilabay nas mga tawo which is why we're battling this huge plastic problem now after decades of neglect by huge companies and consumers.

Pero ug huna-hunaon nimo grabi na sya ka heavy na problem and trying to do something about it by yourself will surely seem insignificant haha you could be avoiding straws and plastic all your life but imo tapad gasig palit sab, sige ra sad produce tonnes of plastic by the minute ang mga kompanya hay diba lakas maka hopeless 🥵

But that hopelessness is exactly why I started my business before - Starting Step. I read so much about zero-waste living, greenwashing, fast fashion and so on, it was so overwhelming but it motivated me to reach my goal of taking what I learned and simplifying it into small, doable daily steps for everyone else.

Sabi nga ni angkol Steve Jobs, "It takes a lot of hard work to make something simple, to truly understand the underlying challenges and come up with elegant solutions." Kaso it's hard talaga kol hahaha and I did not come through with the business, sa personal nalang.

That's why when I knew na this zero-wate store opened here in our city I was so excited kasi this has always been a dream of mine 🥺 I'm soo so happy that these options for a more sustainable consumption are gonna be available na everywhere!!"

Ciara is a third year entrepreneur student from IIT. She plans to create social enterprises once she graduates. She's always been fascinated by sustainable actions that she launched her own business last year, Starting Step.
