Meet the first Fulbright grantee from the Nagar Valley-Gilgit, Riaz Akbar, who aspire to evolve the governance system of his valley and ensure peace in the region.

Akbar is part of the 2017 Fulbright cohort and currently pursuing Master’s in Democracy and Governance at the Georgetown University in Washington D.C.

“Through this program, I will be able to understand the foundations of a democratic system, challenges faced while bringing governance reform and how policymakers can create and implement effective policies to achieve a sustained democracy in Pakistan,” shares Akbar.
