Pezeshkian Opens UN Address by Showing Photos of Children Killed in Minab School Strike

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian began his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly by displaying photographs of children killed in the February strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh Primary School in Minab.

Pezeshkian used the images while accusing the United States and Israel of attacking Iranian civilians and presenting Iran as a victim of the conflict. The U.S. delegation walked out during his speech.

A UN fact-finding mission has said there are reasonable grounds to believe U.S. forces were responsible for the Minab school strike, which it said killed more than 150 people, including around 120 children.

The claims and counterclaims surrounding the conflict remain politically and legally contested.

In September 2026, female medical graduates from the Islamic University of Gaza gathered for a graduation ceremony unlike any they had imagined.

Instead of a decorated hall, the 15th medical cohort stood among the severely damaged buildings of their university campus in Gaza City.

These students had spent years studying through extraordinary circumstances.

Since their third year, they had faced displacement, shortages, and the collapse of much of the infrastructure around them.

Their clinical training continued inside active hospital wards, even as the wider healthcare system faced immense pressure.

And when it was finally time to celebrate, they had little of the usual ceremony.

So they raised their phones.

One by one, their tiny lights illuminated the gathering, creating a quiet sea of brightness against the surrounding destruction.

It was more than a graduation photo. It captured years of perseverance, sacrifice, and a determination to keep moving forward despite circumstances they never chose.

These women began their journey wanting to become doctors.

And after everything they endured, they finally stood together as graduates, bringing hope to people of Gaza. 🧡

Never stop talking about Palestine.

Jiang Xueqin recently argued that most of those killed in Gaza are children.

The exact statistic needs correcting: children are not a majority of the identified fatalities.

But the real numbers are horrifying enough without exaggeration.

According to UN humanitarian data, more than 21,000 Palestinian children had already been identified among those killed in Gaza by the end of 2025 — roughly 30% of all identified deaths.

And even after a ceasefire was announced, the killing did not stop.

UNICEF reported in August that at least 300 children had been killed during the following 300 days — an average of one Palestinian child every single day.

Behind every statistic was an actual child.

Someone who had a name, a family, friends, favorite foods, dreams and an entire future that should have existed.

Numbers this enormous can eventually become background noise.

They shouldn’t.

Whether Gaza dominates the headlines or disappears from them, Palestinian children do not become less human when the world stops paying attention.

Israel has designated Palestinian children’s paper kites a national security threat while the Israeli army bombs, shells and opens fire on children, women and men, and while it destroys mosques and water desalination facilities, with full impunity and support from the West.

Reporter Ahmed al-Najjar said that at least one Palestinian man was murdered and several others were wounded in an attack on displacement shelters in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis on 26 August, “under the auspices of the [so-called] ceasefire.”

Turning to the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces assassinated a prominent community figure, a 58-year-old father of two resistance fighters, in Jenin on Friday, 21 August.

Mondoweiss’ Shatha Hanaysha reports that Fathi Khazem, also known as Abu Raad, was at home with his 12-year-old son, Adam, “when Israeli soldiers raided his home in the al-Masarwa neighborhood of Jenin. The soldiers had forcibly recruited a young man from the neighborhood to accompany them as a human shield, after which they blew open the front door and stormed inside.”

According to the family, Adam witnessed what they described as the “execution of his father by Israeli forces, and has remained in a state of shock ever since,” Mondoweiss reported.

Speaking to the publication, the 12-year-old recounted how they ordered his father “to raise his hands, remove his clothes and kneel before them. Adam said that his father refused to comply with their orders or submit to their attempts to humiliate him, asking, ‘Who are you that I should kneel before you?’”
