A preterm baby was admitted to our Khyber NICU at Khyber Medical Centre Shahmansoor Swabi with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), presenting with severe respiratory distress, grunting, and oxygen desaturation. Prompt assessment, including an urgent chest X-ray, confirmed the diagnosis.

Our neonatal team immediately administered surfactant therapy using the InSurE (Intubation–Surfactant–Extubation) technique, allowing the baby to receive timely treatment while minimizing the need for prolonged mechanical ventilation.

With dedicated NICU care, CPAP Therapy, and continuous monitoring, the baby's condition improved steadily and they were discharged home in good health on the 10th day of life.

This successful outcome reflects the commitment, expertise, and teamwork of our neonatal staff in providing evidence-based care for critically ill newborns.
