Luxury French perfume house, Annick Goutal, first captured my heart in 2012 with the fragrance I reviewed, Eau d’Hadrien. Following the success of this scent, Goutal have brought to life a line of precious and carnal fragrances, starting with their 2017 release of Nuit et Confidences.

While Eau d’Hadrien conjured up images of life under the Tuscan Sun, Nuit et Confidences takes you right to the heart of a night out in Paris. This sensual, and extremely sexy oriental fragrance was inspired by Camille Goutal’s connection with artists and intellectuals and the curiosity of what immersion in an evening with such company might be like.

Nuit et Confidences is an alluring fragrance with an air of mystery about it. I didn’t think that I would find a scent from this brand to top Eau d’Hadrien but with Nuit et Confidences, they are on even par. This is a beautifully refined, feminine eau de parfum that takes a really grown up approach to vanilla.

Opening brightly with bergamot and full-bodied pepper, followed by the captivating heart of frankincense, white flower, incense and tonka bean, this is a scent that’s blended to capture your attention and draw you in. Warming down to the delicious combination of vanilla and white musk, it is a scent that feels feminine, alluring and lasts for ever on the skin. If you love to wear a fragrance thats stands apart from so many others and has people questioning, ‘Wow you smell amazing’ Then this is certainly the one for you.

The perfumer behind this fragrance was Bernard Chant, and its fair to say Chant made some great perfumes and ARAMIS is a true masterpiece from a world class nose.

The top and middle notes of this fragrance are filled with a combination of white floral, green grass, orange citrus and warm peppery spice notes which develop into herbal, musky and woody aspects as the base notes start to glimmer.

Most of these dissipate within the first few minutes to an hour and make way for the long lasting masculine base notes of animalistic leather, woody patchouli, warm amber, suede-like castoreum and although not noted by ourselves, coconut as some people do find it in the reformulated version.

With the base notes in place and remaining for a long time, you may find the only just discernible forms of the initial floral, herbal grass, peppery spice and citrus notes appearing from time to time in the shadows. There is also a little sweetness to be discovered in the finish of the reformulated version, which was never found in the original.

This intensely masculine scent is boldly self-assured and can easily transfer this feeling to the wearer, like a mantle of confident success. ARAMIS has maturity and class, creating a sense of comforting security to those within range of its sillage. Its warmth is both provocative and inviting, something you want to snuggle up with.
For anybody looking for an old school masculine scent, then this is a must try.

Christian Carbonel, the perfumer behind KAJAHL’S Fiddah is most certainly clever. Throughout his perfumes he displays an innate understanding of how natural and ingredients tick, pairing them together to make wonderful, surprising, novel and beautiful creations. Fiddah is one of her most enjoyable and it’s a great example of vanilla as a supporting act within a wider composition.

Fiddah pairs an Earl Grey-like bergamot note with cinnamon, vanillin, to***co and benzoin with its gourmand aroma that adds lift and a plush texture. The vanilla itself has a watery feel, but the effect is light and vivacious as opposed to thin and washed out – a testament to Christian Carbonnel's talent if there ever was one.

As Fiddah wears on, the sweet fruity tones become quieter, and the darker dry leathery subtlety of to***co starts to unfold in slow waves. Alongside the leather, it now takes the spotlight.

The result is an understated fragrance with a fuzzy texture that feels sparkly, smooth, and really quite sexy. Fiddah is vanilla at its most exotic, and it is so nuanced that it could be evocative of anywhere in the world.
It should be mandatory for everyone to have a bottle of this perfume in their wardrobe, even if it did result in an increase of reproduction.

After Mikael’s superb presentation of this perfume, I decided it was a must to acquire.
Lets begin with the presentation: Isn't it just beautiful? The fragrance is sealed in a golden tube, to protect the luxurious golden horns, and although beautiful they are, you need to be careful as they are sharp. The inspiration behind this beautiful perfume is the iconic Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm.

The bottle is heavy and weighty, made of thick glass, with beveled edges, and it's nice to hold in your hand. You feel the strength, power, and grace of the deer! On the front side there is a gold plate with the logo and the name of the XVI fragrance.

The lid is really beautiful. You will want to look at it from all sides. Made of high-quality material, and covered in gold, it sits tightly on the shoulders of the bottle and holds firmly. There is no fear that it will fly off, or open, until you demand it too.

The rare ingredient Artemisia is very maddening, like a magic potion to the nose. It is very unusual, and memorable, and when blended with the Bergamot it offers a lot of character. The green middle notes give the feeling of being outside on a cold spring, while the density of the aroma is building up. It truly becomes a beautiful, and elegant scent, with an aura befitting its silhouette.

The pyramid of the perfume, especially in the base notes, has a complexity that is unusual. Similar to a game of Carcassonne that is well designed, well crafted, with never the same scenarios, that you want to solve. It is indeed a very complex, intellectual and luxurious perfume, that veers into niche exclusivity.

This is a perfume that demands your respect, and in return it will ensure that you smell your best.

Saffron is one of the rarest, costliest, and most distinctive of spices. The delicate orange threads are the stigma of a crocus flower, which have to be harvested by hand. The spice imbues everything it is used in with its distinctive golden-orange color, and it is the signature shade of Buddhist monk’s robes. In perfume, it is a note that is often used to lend an air of Oriental mystery and depth.

N1 is the first La Beauté scent that I have had the pleasure of reviewing, and it continues to weave its spell. There perfumes tell tales of lands far away, of spice markets, seraglios, deserts, ancient villages, and precious goods. N1 is no exception, because as soon as you put it on, you are transported across the waters to a place you can only imagined.

Opening with a sweet, vibrant citrus, N1 quickly simmers into a beautiful, heady blend, with bursts of silvery violet and dewy rose popping out between the wisps of saffron. The saffron here is subtle, but definitely present. The spice has a bitterness that has been tempered in the perfume, leaving the creamy and indescribable saffron heart. A surprising, soft leather note hovers at the edges, giving the perfume an interestingly human touch, like your hands have been rinsed with a bit of rosewater.

As a prelimanary to my review, I wore N1 without any thoughts as to what was in it, or trying to imagine what I would say about it, just put it on and went about my day like I normally would. I have to say that the perfume and I got along like we had been companions for a long time, the kind that can carry on an interesting conversation, but also know when to just be quiet with each other. I can see this becoming a favourite, and maybe edging it in above a few other perfumes. It is definitely unisex, with fairly close sillage and excellent longevity.

I would highly recommend this to anyone that simply wants to smell good.

London Oud was originally created as a bespoke perfume for David Haye, former World Boxing Champion. It was crafted by Francois Merle Baudoin working directly with David over 18 months until David had the exact perfume he wanted. Davids brief was for a fresh fragrance with no powerful Oud note.

To achieve this Francois used natural Oud oil to project the power to other notes within the fragrance with its own note being almost undetectable. This is one of the unique and magical properties of real Oud Oil in the palette and expert hands of master perfumers. The perfume was Love at first smell and graciously David allowed, Fragrance Du Bois to share this creation with you.

The fragrance opens like a fresh spring morning in London, with the mist rolling off the Thames and swirling across parks and around the ankles of early morning joggers. As the morning progresses, so too does the fragrance. Faint nuances of citrus and lavender give way to complex white floral notes, matching the vibrant character of the city.

The fragrance bustles through busy florals and exciting spices, perfectly reflecting cosmopolitan London. The day and the city drift through a warm afternoon into a balmy evening. Subtle and rich woods enhance this warm feel, with daring Oud preparing the senses for an exciting night of partying in the world’s greatest city.
