Due to its potential to cause permanent vision loss within days, giant cell arteritis is a true ophthalmic emergency. Rather than an ophthalmic condition, it is a systemic autoimmune condition caused by inflammation within the walls of medium and large arteries. It almost exclusively affects individuals aged 50 and older.

The most common symptom of GCA is headache, usually temporal or occipital and acute or subacute in onset. Others include lethargy, weight or appetite loss, fever, stroke symptoms, pain and stiffness in the hip girdle and shoulders and jaw claudication.

Study shows these factors were not solely associated with axial length, but correlated with blood perfusion as well, particularly in the foveal area.

“The positive correlation between AL and macular blood perfusion is contrary to previously published studies on adults, which showed a negative association,” the authors explained in their article for Ophthalmic and Physiologic Optics. “One plausible explanation for this discrepancy may be due to the potential variability in the elasticity of fundus vessels between pediatric and adult subjects. This difference might contribute to variations in the autoregulatory capacity of these vessels, subsequently leading to metabolic changes in the retina."

Kiedy siadasz do biurka do pracy i widzisz prezent od żony!

Wraz z Sylwią dostaliśmy dzisiaj taki super prezent od naszej optycznej rodzinki, z okazji dnia szefa! To jest mega miłe ❤️❤️❤️

Ciekawe że przy pomocy samego telefonu byłem w stanie zrobić takie zdjęcie Księżyca. Kiedyś zeby zrobic nawet gorsze zdjęcie potrzeba było aparatu cyfrowego i prostego teleskopu, a teraz wystarczy sam telefon.

Niedawno był, ale udało mi się złapać inny gatunek - Demodex folliculorum, czyli nużeńca ludzkiego. Tutaj akurat mamy najprawdopodobniej stadium nimfy, czyli jeszcze nie w pełni wykształconego nużeńca. Od nimfy do stadium dorosłego mija około 60 godzin.

Fotografia jest złożona z wielu zdjęć, dzięki czemu jest widoczna większa głębia ostrości, a ciemne pole obserwacji dodatkowo podnosi kontrast.
