Inhaling essential oils is the fastest route to the brain. When you breathe in essential oil, the molecules are absorbed by the hairs inside your nostrils that have receptors, these send a signal to your into the olfactory bulb located in the limbic region of the brain.

The amount that gets absorbed depends on the bioavailability of the essential oil. Anywhere from 30% - 70% can be absorbed into the body.

Essential oils largely affect the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, which, once stimulated, release hormones into the body. So if we inhale essential oils with stimulating properties it will produce a response in the appropriate part of the limbic region.

This means that emotions can be released and a healing response can be triggered in the body.

Let's talk about Humidifiers and Diffusers.

A lot of people have been coming up to me and asking this: Hey, I already have a humidifier at home. Can I just purchase some essential oils and not the kit?

Hmm.

Diffusers are what are usually paired with essential oils.

Humidifiers are used to help a room maintain a certain level of moisture.

Young Living diffusers have ultrasonic plates. This plate inside the device vibrates and agitates the water, which then propels tiny water molecules into the air. When you put essential oils, its molecules also break down into tiny parts which are then dispersed into the air, while simultaneously humidifying the air.

While there are humidifiers which also have ultrasonic plates, they are not designed for essential oils. The oils can damage the plastic components, and some units that release warm mist boils water and can be dangerous, especially if left alone with a child.

So if you want to get the best aromatherapy benefits of your essential oils, it is best if you use it with an essential oil diffuser. ❤
