These clubswinging aces are boys from Woodstock College in north London, England, training for their annual gymnastic display.

RN Barracks Chatham, c1904. Gymnastics: Outdoor gymnastics equipment with ratings participating in various activities including fencing. Construction of the barracks began in 1897 and was completed in 1902. The barracks were also known as HMS Pembroke and were used until 1961 for the reserve fleet. At this time the barracks were integrated into the dockyard and naval base until the closure of both and the decommissioning of HMS Pembroke in 1984.

L'équilibre, la forme physique et la flexibilité sont des atouts. Curieusement, le jeune homme en position haute porte une tenue clown. Le professeur de sexe masculin qui le soutient sur ses épaules tient une jeune fille dans une position debout – la modestie à cette époque signifie qu'elle porte des tricots et qu'elle évite de lui exposer ses sous-vêtements ! Les autres filles sont vêtues de la même manière. Une fille (caméra avant centrale) est en position de pont – une photo victorienne/édouardienne vintage 1800s/1900s.
