The devotion to the Divine Mercy is a central aspect of the Catholic Church's spiritual life. It is based on the revelation of Jesus Christ to a Polish nun, St. Faustina Kowalska, in the early 20th century.

According to St. Faustina, Jesus appeared to her and asked her to spread the message of His Divine Mercy throughout the world. He revealed to her a prayer known as the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which involves the recitation of the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Apostles' Creed, as well as the repeating of the phrase, "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."

The devotion to the Divine Mercy is rooted in the Bible, particularly in the New Testament. Jesus' message of mercy and forgiveness is central to His teachings, as seen in the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) and His interactions with sinners throughout the Gospels.

One of the most important aspects of the devotion to the Divine Mercy is the recognition of God's infinite love and mercy for all people, regardless of their sins and shortcomings. This is reflected in the image of the Divine Mercy, which shows Jesus with his hand raised in blessing and his other hand touching his heart, from which two rays of light emanate – one red and one white, symbolizing the blood and water that flowed from his side during the crucifixion.

The Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Divine Mercy on the Sunday after Easter, which is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. On this day, Catholics are encouraged to receive the sacrament of reconciliation and to participate in Eucharistic adoration, in addition to praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
