Confession from a Soap Maker

I sometimes feel slightly guilty when people tell me they are saving their beautiful soap.

They place it in a drawer. Or on a guest bathroom tray. Or next to perfumes they rarely open.
“It’s too pretty to use,” they say, almost apologetically.

Just sitting there. Intact. Untouched. Preserved.

Somehow, over the years, we have learned to treat beautiful things as if they were fragile reputations.

The supermarket bar that dries your hands but feels “reasonable.”
