When the world turns its eyes to Singapore’s iconic F1 night race in 2025, Peninsula Plaza will be impossible to miss.

But here’s why:

Originally, the peninsula plaza's track facing facade had bright lights for its lower levels and low lighting for the rest of the building, which made it less noticeable at night instead of standing out.

Even though it has been a landmark in Singapore CBD for decades, it risked being overlooked as part of the skyline by the millions of spectators and global TV audience.

That visibility matters.

Because the building is not just an established icon in Singapore, this concerns it's international prestige and branding, that could influence its real estate value and desirability.

As project lighting experts, my company Starled Technology Pte Ltd was engaged to install a series of custom skylights strategically facing the race track, designed to light up the entire facade and brand for all to see.

These needed to be powerful enough to illuminate the entire building but also power saving enough to minimise additional power costs.

The location and angle of illumination also had to be precise.

To ensure that, we even ran a Dialux simulation for the client to confirm the exact angle and type of light to use that would light up the whole building.

To save costs of rewiring and installation, we mounted the new lights at the same location as the old lights, in the car park area, which also made them easy to access for maintenance.

The panels of the new lights are also made adjustable, so that the angle can still be changed after installation.

The entire project took only less than 1 month (from sourcing to installation)

The result?

Peninsula Plaza is now positioned as a glowing icon during the F1 night race, capturing attention of millions when photos and videos are taken, and taking its rightful place on Singapore’s skyline.
