Watch me absolutely CRASH over a saree I had probably only ever seen in an advertisement… until it landed in my hands.
This is a Swarovski saree by The Chennai Silks, bought by her more than a decade ago. Embellished with Swarovski crystals and woven with gold and silver zari, there was A LOT for us to obsess over. And she was telling us that she bought this back then for around $10K and that it’s now valued at approximately $42K. Whaaaaaaaattt!!!

And here’s my favourite little detail… she bought this saree even before she met the man she would eventually marry! Now THAT is falling in love with the saree first. 😂

Sometimes a bridal look continues to evolve even after we think we’ve decided on everything. ✨
Let me share a kutty story behind this
When she came over for her accessory selection with this absolutely gorgeous saree, we played around with a few different combinations. We first tried the green, then moved on to the arakku set, which we both loved and eventually settled on.
Accessories decided. Done. Or so I thought. 😂
Later, when I had her saree with me for ironing and pre pleating, I found myself admiring it all over again. The colour was just so beautiful and unusual. Somewhere between a rich mustard, olive and antique gold, and depending on how the light caught it, it almost looked completely golden.
And the longer I looked at it, the more I wanted to play with the accessories again.
So out came my jewellery dappas 😂 I started pulling out individual pieces, laying them against the saree, playing with different lengths and layers, moving things around, taking photos and visualising how everything would come together on her.
Eventually, I landed on a layering that I really loved.
On her actual day, I brought along what we had originally planned as well as the new pieces. I told her about my little styling experiment and asked if she was open to trying it.
She said yes. 🥹
We put everything together, looked at the final layering on her and… that was it. ✨
I’m so glad she was open to letting the look evolve, because sometimes you find the look during the accessory appointment, and sometimes inspiration comes when you least expect it.
And in this case, I think the saree itself inspired the final look.

There’s always so much happening behind the scenes of getting a bride ready, especially during a changeover. Things come off, things go on, sarees get changed, jewellery gets removed and before you know it, the room can look like a mini tornado just passed through. 😂
But one thing that is very important to me is how I leave that room.
I never like leaving a bride’s saree crumpled or strewn across the floor. I’ll fold it properly, keep the blouse together with it, gather her jewellery and belongings and make sure everything is safely kept in one place.
Part of it is simply respect for the saree I’ve just draped on her. And part of it is knowing that the bride and her family already have enough going on that day. I want whoever comes back into that room to be able to simply pick everything up and go.
No matter how tired I am or how quickly I need to leave for my next booking, this is something I try my best not to skip.
It’s one of those little things that probably happens without anyone noticing.
And then, room cleared, a little sunlight, a glimpse of Murugan kovil goburam on my way out… and off I go. ✌🏽🤍
Wedding season is back in full swing, and I have so many beautiful brides I can’t wait to share with you.
