One of the most common messages I receive after a facial is:
And honestly, it's a fair question.
Many people expect a facial today to mean perfect skin tomorrow.
But skin doesn't always work that way.
Just like a workout creates temporary stress before the body adapts, the skin may also need time to settle and recover after treatment.
The good news is that most clients experience only mild and temporary skin responses, if any, and these typically settle as the skin recovers.
Some responses are common and expected, such as slight redness after extraction, smoother-feeling skin, or improved hydration.
Other responses are less common but still possible, depending on the individual's skin condition and the treatment performed.
That's why I always provide aftercare guidance before a client leaves, and why I encourage clients to reach out whenever they're unsure.
At the same time, significant pain, excessive swelling, worsening irritation, or other unusual reactions should never be ignored and deserve attention.
The goal isn't just to perform a treatment.
It's to support the skin through the entire journey.
I've put together this simple diagram to help explain what you can generally expect after a facial.
Every skin heals differently, and recovery is part of the journey.
If you have questions about your skin or aren't sure what it's trying to tell you, feel free to reach out for a WhatsApp consultation.

Many people think a facial is a fixed routineโsame steps for everyone.
When a new client comes in, I always begin with a proper consultation and skin analysis. I need to understand the skin firstโwhat is happening, and what you actually need.
Only then will I tailor the facial accordingly.
The process usually starts with cleansing and gentle preparation of the skin. If needed, I will perform careful and selective extractionโbut only when it is truly necessary, and always with comfort and skin safety as the priority.
After that, I focus on helping the skin recoverโthrough soothing care, hydration support, barrier repair, and calming treatments.
While the mask is working, I also include a neck, shoulder, and scalp massage so the body can relax as well.
Before you leave, I make sure your skin is calm and comfortable, and Iโll share simple aftercare guidance so you know exactly what to expect.
To me, a facial is not about following a fixed checklist.

I can take a look at your skin and advise you honestly based on what it actually needs.

Many people think:
If a treatment stings, peels, or dries out the skin
โฆit must be working.
But this is something I see quite often:
For some skin, constant irritation may actually keep inflammation going longer.
Especially when the skin is already sensitive, reactive, or over-treated.
Sometimes, healing is not about doing more.
Itโs about reducing unnecessary irritation and allowing the skin to recover more properly.
Sometimes, it is simply more strategic treatment.

Sometimes, the problem is ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ต just the acne itself.
Sometimes, itโs the cycle the skin has become trapped in.
This is a pattern I see quite often in recurring acne:
โข more inflammation,
โข more irritation,
โข more reactivity,
โข and skin that gradually struggles to recover.
Thatโs what inspired this thinking diagram.

Not every breakout is caused by โdirty skinโ or poor hygiene.
And not all acne is purely barrier damage either.
In many people, especially adults, acne can involve:
โข inflammation
โข hormones
โข stress
โข skin sensitivity
โข and repeated irritation from treatments over time
This is something I see quite often.
At first glance, it may look like stubborn recurring acne.
But sometimes, thereโs another issue happening alongside the breakouts:
A weakened skin barrier.
When the skin barrier becomes compromised, the skin often becomes:
โข more inflamed
โข more reactive
โข slower to heal
โข and less tolerant of aggressive treatment
In some cases, acne itself may weaken the barrier through ongoing inflammation. Then repeated treatments, over-exfoliation, or irritation weaken it even further.
Over time, this can become a cycle.
3 common signs I pay attention to:
1๏ธโฃ Skin feels tight, sensitive, or โburnsโ easily
2๏ธโฃ Acne improves temporarilyโฆ then keeps returning
Skin heals more slowly than before
Hereโs what many people donโt realise:
That doesnโt mean barrier repair alone solves every acne condition. Some cases may also require medical support, especially when hormones are involved.
But for skin that has been repeatedly pushed or over-treated, supporting barrier recovery can sometimes make a meaningful difference.
Thatโs part of how I approach acne at ๐ ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฅ๐ผ๐ผ๐บ.

He didnโt have โstubborn acne.โ
He had over-treated skin.
A client came to me after trying many acne treatments.
Before coming to me, he had already gone through several treatments elsewhere.
Each time, his skin improved a littleโฆ
But the results never lasted.
After a while, a pattern became clear.
His skin was getting:
โข more sensitive
โข more reactive
โข slower to heal
And like many people,
he had the habit of touching, scratching, and picking at his skinโespecially when breakouts appeared.
At first, it looked like normal recurring acne.
But when I assessed his skin:
His skin barrier was already weakened.
This wasnโt uncommonโhis skin had been pushed too hard over time.
Most of the treatments he had gone through before coming to me focused on clearing acne quickly.
But when skin is constantly pushed like thatโ
and combined with daily irritation from pickingโ
it doesnโt improve.
It becomes more unstable.
This is a pattern I see often.
Over time, it becomes a cycle:
Over-treatment
โ Skin barrier weakens
โ Inflammation increases
โ Skin becomes more reactive
โ More touching & picking
โ Breakouts return
So instead of doing more,
we did lessโstrategically.
We focused on:
โข calming the skin
โข reducing inflammation
โข allowing it to recover first
And helping him become more aware of how small habits were affecting his skin.
The change wasnโt overnight.
But gradually:
โข breakouts reduced
โข skin became less reactive
โข healing improved
Hereโs something many people donโt realise:
If your acne keeps coming back,
it may not be because your skin is stubborn.
It may be because your skin hasnโt been given the chance to recover.
Not every skin needs this approach.
For certain conditions, medical support may also be important.
But for some people, doing things ๐ฅ๐ช๐ง๐ง๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ญ๐บ makes all the difference.
Thatโs how I approach acne at My Facial Room.

Iโm looking for clients who are tired of fighting their own skin.
Doing moreโฆ but still feeling stuck.
Some people prefer fast results.
Stronger treatments.
Something that feels very โactive.โ
Thereโs nothing wrong with that.
But for acne-prone or sensitive skin
that approach can sometimes lead to:
temporary improvement โ irritation โ relapse
So Iโll be honest.
My approach may ๐ป๐ผ๐ be for you if:
โข You want quick, immediate results
โข You prefer strong, intensive treatments
โข You like changing products often
โข Youโre not open to adjusting your routine
โข You expect everything to be extracted in one session
Because I donโt focus on doing more.
I focus on helping your skin stabilise.
When skin is reactive, itโs not something to fight โ
itโs something to understand.
If your skin feels like itโs going in circlesโฆ
and youโre open to a calmer, more consistent approachโฆ
feel free to message me.

I donโt treat acne by doing more.
In factโฆ many times, I do ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐๐ธ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐.
Because Iโve seen what happens when the skin is pushed too hard.
Some clients come to me after trying different facials and multiple skincare products โ
and their skin ends up more reactive than before.
Not because they didnโt try hard enoughโฆ
but because their skin was being pushed too much, too quickly.
Theyโre doing moreโฆ but feeling like theyโre going backwards.
So my approach is different.
I donโt start with treatments.
I start with understanding.
For acne-prone or sensitive skin,
more intensity doesnโt always mean better results.
Sometimes, it just means more inflammation.
Hereโs how I approach acne differently:
โข Understand your skin first โ not assume
โข Protect the skin barrier
โข Extract gently (only when the skin is ready)
โข Calm and regulate inflammation
โข Keep things consistent (no constant switching)

Many treatments follow this cycle:
damage โ inflammation โ temporary improvement โ relapse
My approach focuses on:
understand โ support โ stabilise โ strengthen โ allow healing to happen
Because when skin regains balanceโฆ it starts to recover.
My treatments are not about doing the most.
Theyโre designed to avoid the common triggers that keep acne coming back.
Theyโre about doing what your skin can actually accept.
If your skin feels stuck or keeps relapsing
you may not need another aggressive treatment.
You may just need a different approach.
If youโre unsure what your skin actually needs, feel free to message me.

Iโve had clients come to me after trying many facials and skincare products โ some quite expensive.
But instead of getting better
their acne got worse.
Not immediately.
Usually a few days later.
Then it happens again.
Most people think:
โMaybe my skin is just stubborn.โ
But often, itโs not your skin.
Itโs the type of treatment your skin is receiving.

Youโre not struggling to heal your skin because youโre not doing enough.
In fact, many people I see have already tried
The real issue?
Most treatments are designed to fight your skin
instead of helping it recover.
Most acne treatments focus on:
โข removing oil
โข killing bacteria
โข speeding up peeling
But healing doesnโt come from constantly taking things away.
It happens when your skin finally has what it needs.
When your barrier is damaged:
โข irritation increases
โข inflammation lingers
โข breakouts take longer to heal
Healthy skin heals faster. Damaged skin reacts longer.
Inflammation is part of healing โ not the enemy.
But when treatments are too harsh or too strong,
your skin loses its ability to regulate itself.
Soothing ingredients like Niacinamide and Centella Asiatica help the skin complete the healing cycle without becoming chronic.
Switching products or treatments too often resets your skin again and again.
Your skin needs time โ typically 28 to 45 days โ to complete its cycle.
โProduct hoppingโ prevents real healing.
